The latest figures from Social Security Scotland show that at the end of August 2022, there were 125,279 people living in Scotland receiving additional financial support through Attendance Allowance. Across Great Britain, there are now more than 1.4 million people over State Pension age getting either £68.10 or £101.75 each week through the benefit, following the annual benefits uprating in April.

The latest statistics from the Stroke Association indicate that there are 1.3million stroke survivors across the UK. The charity’s research also suggests 100,000 people have a stroke each year and that someone will suffer a cerebrovascular accident (stroke) or a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) - often referred to as a ‘mini-stroke’ - every five minutes.

Time is running out for people to buy credits to plug any gaps in their National Insurance (NI) record for any missed years of contributions from as far back as April 2006. The UK Government extended the deadline from April 5, 2023 to July 31, 2023 after the original deadline saw a surge of people trying to contact the Future Pension Centre phone line, but unable to get through.

People on State Pension or benefits set to receive payments early next week due to bank holiday

The official Spring bank holiday falls on Monday, May 29 which means payments delivered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), including Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance, due on that date will be made early on Friday, May 26. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is expected to announce similar changes to scheduled payment also due on that date.
