P7 pupils at Balloch’s St Kessog’s Primary became the first to learn new skills through a pioneering Tullochan programme.
The Dumbarton based charity is currently delivering several outdoor learning programmes across West Dunbartonshire’s primary schools and has recently developed a new and exciting programme aimed at providing skills for life learning and work.
Tullochan’s Retail and Design programme is delivered from the Design House in Alexandria, a Social Enterprise retail outlet of Tullochan which offers bespoke soft furnishings, t-shirts, mugs, printing and alterations.
The fun and innovative programme offers a variety of hands-on developmental activities with a focus on developing the young workforce. Primary 7 pupils from St Kessog’s became the first group to take part in the six-week programme.
Alongside learning about customer service and merchandising, the pupils were taught basic sewing and embroidery skills – creating their own cushions to take home. They also designed and printed their own t-shirts and mugs to take home and produced extra samples which are now available to buy in the shop.
Tullochan has long established relationships with many of the primary and secondary schools in the West Dunbartonshire area and Tullochan’s Pupil Equity Funded programmes are tailored to meet the needs of each school and the pupils involved.
St Kessog’s head teacher Amanda Feeley said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to see the children so engaged and their confidence increasing. The skills they have been learning have rubbed off on me too as I bought myself a new sewing machine and can’t put it down.”

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter A jury has been selected in the Paul Haggis rape trial, which is set to begin with opening remarks on Wednesday morning in New York City. Haggis, the Oscar-winning director of “Crash” and screenwriter of “Million Dollar Baby,” has been accused of raping a publicist named Haleigh Breest after a movie premiere nearly a decade ago. Breest’s lawsuit was filed in 2017 in the wake of the #MeToo movement, which led to an influx of sexual assault allegations against prominent men. Haggis has claimed the encounter, which took place in 2013, was consensual and maintains the rape charge came in retaliation for his decision to leave and then criticize the Church of Scientology. Prior to the trial, Breest’s attorneys sought to block Haggis from arguing that Scientology was orchestrating the allegations in retaliation, saying that Breest and other witnesses have no connection to the church. They also argued that pursuing that line of defense will distract the jury from the particulars of Breest’s allegations. But in September, Judge Sabrina Kraus ruled that Haggis will be able to use that argument.
