‘SNL’ spoofs upcoming ‘Barbie’ film with ‘American Girl Doll’ parody

upcoming “Barbie” film was spoofed on “Saturday Night Live” with the popular TV show announcing its own spin-off of another popular doll brand, the American Girls. The prerecorded clip, which aired on April 15, begins by showing clips from Gerwig’s upcoming film.“People can’t stop talking about the brand new ‘Barbie’ movie,” says the narrator. “But not everyone can live in a dream house.”“Some are younger, bigger or sadder,” continues the narration.
“Some dolls are American Girls.” The camera then pans up to reveal five other cast members dressed as the fictious dolls.Each doll introduces themselves revealing a bit of the horror they have dealt with. “I’m a b–chy orphan from Victorian times, said Chloe Fineman who plays the doll named Samantha. ” I watched my parents die in a boat.
“My daddy’s a prisoner of war,” says Molly (played Molly Kearney), a World War II-era doll . “And tragically, I have glasses.” “That’s ok, My mama is dead, said Josefina (played by host Ana de Armas). “We buried her in the church graveyard.“That’s OK,” says Addy — played by Ego Nwodim — a black girl who grew up during the Civil War.
“I don’t know my birthday because I’m a runaway slave.” The narration continues by saying that, unlike the Margot Robbie-led film, there are no pink corvettes, no boyfriends. “Did all their family members die of vague, old-timey diseases? Absolutely,” said the narration. “Come for the fun, stay for the overburdened preteens wearing four layers of petticoats and pantaloons.”At one solemn point in the trailer, Josefina reveals that the memory of her mother is slipping away.
