Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Mark Rylance are the adorable duo we never knew we needed. The pair were among several stars in the stands at Wimbledon, watching the action unfold on the court for day eight of the tennis tournament. They sat alongside the likes of Sir Cliff Richard, Lorraine Kelly, and Stephen Fry, who all scrubbed up nicely for the occasion.
And in the sweetest gesture (literally, we have tears), Sir Ian, 83, greeted Sir Mark, 62, with a kiss on the hand. The Dunkirk actor wore a smile on his face as the Hobbit star took his right hand and pecked it gently. Both film stars looked extremely dapper in their suits, with Sir Ian opting for a pale grey number with a blue shirt and tie, while Sir Mark wore a khaki jacket with a cream shirt underneath.
He attended the event with his composer partner, Claire van Kampen, whom he married back in 1989. Just to add to all the wholesome content, Sir Ian was later spotted with a pair of teeny binoculars, which allowed him to see exactly what was happening on the court up close, ensuring he didn’t miss a single second. Sir Mark – who wore glasses – also watched on intently, seemingly very invested in the intense game.
This was the first time Sir Mark – real name David Mark Rylance Waters – has been seen since the tragic death of his brother, who was killed in a cycling crash in June. Jonathan Waters was 60-years-old when he died while cycling in Oakland when he was hit by an oncoming car. He suffered severe head injuries and the fire service gave him treatment, as they were first to arrive at the scene.
