X Factor star Simon Cowell is finally settling down to long term girlfriend and mother to his eight year old son, Lauren Silverman, and perhaps unexpectedly, the star is taking the reins by organising the big day. Simon, 62, proposed to Lauren, 43, on a romantic holiday in Barbados earlier this year and the music mogul is taking control of the wedding plans. The Britain’s Got Talent judge has said he's planning the huge event as he doesn’t want it “getting out of control like his 50th birthday” – adding that the ceremony will be a surprise for all guests and even the bride herself.

“No one knows when it’s going to be — that’ll be a surprise, even for Lauren.” He went on: “But I don’t want to have one of these ghastly wedding planners and all the arguments that happen, and who you do invite and who you don’t invite. The whole thing just seems like too much hassle.” Simon revealed lockdown played a part in his decision to finally tie the knot with Lauren, and the couple’s son was also a factor. He said: “We were in the same house for over a year and I thought, ‘Well, actually, we get on really, really well’. “And for Eric, as he gets older, he will be asked more and more about his parents, and I thought it was the right thing to do for him.
