Simon Cowell has revealed he wanted to be cryogenically frozen when he died until he realised it required medics to chop off his head. The X Factor judge and record executive made the startling admission while discussing his will. Cowell reportedly told an audience including Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden in 2009: "I have decided to freeze myself when I die. You know, cryonics.
You pay a lot of money and you get stuck in a deep freeze once you've been declared dead. "Medical science is bound to work out a way of bringing us back to life in the next century or so, and I want to be available when they do. I would be doing the nation an invaluable service." But he's now changed his mind.
"Look, I hadn’t made a will until recently as I never thought I was going to die. At one point, as you know, I was thinking about being frozen, until I realised they actually chop your head off," he told The Sun. "So when I realised I was just going to be a floating head, it was like, ‘Well, that doesn’t sound like a lot of fun’.
So that idea went out the window. "Finally, I realised I was gonna die and that I had made absolutely no provisions whatsoever." Cryonics is the low-temperature freezing and storing of human remains, with the speculative hope that resurrection may be possible in the future. It's regarded with scepticism within the mainstream scientific community. The first corpse to be frozen was that of Dr James Bedford in 1967.
