Simon Cowell is said to have spent a whopping amount on the engagement ring he presented Lauren Silverman when he popped the question last month. The pair had been holidaying out in Barbados when the music mogul proposed to the American socialite.

According to reports, Lauren had already been giving Simon hints about what ring she would want if they were to get married one day. "And Simon, not being stupid, took notice," a source told The Sun."He chose the diamond himself, after getting some professional advice, and went down on one knee whilst on the beach."Both Lauren and Simon have been bombarded with messages of congratulations — they're both super-excited."It was initially claimed that Simon had spent an astounding £2.5 million for the ring, which a source close to the former X Factor judge has since denied.

Simon and Lauren have been together since 2013 after the latter ended her 10-year marriage to American businessman Andrew Silverman in July that same year. They went on to welcome their son Eric Cowell in 2014.Express.co.uk has contacted Simon's reps for comment.Earlier this week, Simon and his soon-to-be wife were seen cycling through the streets of sunny Malibu together when a photographer asked the pair to confirm whether they were engaged.Simon cheekily replied: "What do you think?"He thanked the photog who congratulated the doting pair on the exciting news.

Arsenal to target Dominic Calvert-Lewin if Dusan Vlahovic transfer falls through
Arsenal will move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they fail to sign Dusan Vlahovic. But any attempt to sign the Everton and England striker will not be made until the summer - and is certain to be strongly resisted by the Merseysiders.Fiorentina star Vlahovic is Arsenal's top target and they have made it clear they are willing to do a deal worth over £50m to bring him in now.But the Serbian international wants to join a club that can offer him Champions League football next season - and Juventus are currently favourites to sign him.Tottenham have also enquired about Vlahovic but Juve believe the player wants to join them. The Gunners also fear Manchester City could yet come into the running for the 21-year-old, who has scored 20 times in 24 games this season. So Arsenal are drawing up contingency plans - and Calvert-Lewin is the man they will turn to if Vlahovic turns them down. The Gunners have kept tabs on Toffees star Calvert-Lewin for years and believe the 24-year-old's best years are still to come. But Everton will resist any attempt to sign him, despite the financial situation at Goodison Park meaning sales are likely this summer whether they stay up or not.Calvert-Lewin is regarded as a key player by the club both now and for the future, with recently sacked boss Rafa Benitez trying to build a team around him.The 11-cap striker started the season with three goals in three games but was then ruled out for four months through injury, and has only recently returned.Arsenal could say goodbye to three strikers between now and the summer with the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah up in the air.Gunners boss Mikel Arteta wants a big name brought in to help his team take the next step and

Simon Cowell set to downsize SyCo firm to ‘focus on family’ following engagement news
Simon Cowell formed the company back in 2004, and despite its enormous success over the past two decades, the music mogul is said to want to focus more of his attention on family life. The timing couldn't have been better following the recent news of Simon's engagement to Lauren Silverman during the couple's getaway trip to Barbados last month. The 62-year-old's bike accident in 2020 is also believed to have played a part in his decision to scale down on his business.Various staff members are expected to leave as a production source described it as "the end of an era"."The experience and launchpad Syco gives its employees is completely unique and working alongside Simon is a huge opportunity – he has given so many careers and opportunities to so many people, both off-screen and on-screen," the source told Mail Online."It's not just the UK, but with shows they make all over the world, he indirectly opens the door for so many people."I know Simon is an incredible mentor, and working with him has taken so many people to the very top of the entertainment business all over the world."Though SyCo is downsizing in the coming months, the source insisted that his employees will continue to excel in their careers because working for Simon has made them "the very best in the business".It's further said that his employees won't be struggling to find a new job because of the connections they would have made by working for the father-of-one, who has provided resources for his team that could see them helm a position anywhere in the entertainment industry. The source asserted that working for Simon was unlike working for an ordinary boss because Simon valued everyone working under his company."Simon's a very inspiring and loyal company
