He was 97.Brook’s death was confirmed by his long-time publisher, and later the BBC, on Sunday.

Adapted from celebrated French writer Annie Ernaux’s autobiographical novel of the same name, it follows the emotionally harrowing and physically perilous battle of a brilliant literature student to obtain an abortion in 1963, some 12 years before it was made legal in France. The film’s unexpectedly timely U.S. release by IFC Films in May coincided with news via a leaked document that the Supreme Court was on the verge of overturning the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that recognized women’s constitutional right to abortion in the US. This came to pass on Friday (June 24). As abortion clinics begin closing in some U.S. states, Diwan has penned a column for us on a decision that has sent shockwaves across the world.

Joker director Todd Phillips has confirmed a sequel is officially underway.In a post on Instagram on Tuesday (June 7), the director shared the cover of the script written by Phillips and collaborator Scott Silver, along with a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading the screenplay.As revealed by the script, the sequel is titled Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to “shared madness” or a shared delusional disorder. While it’s unclear how this applies to the film’s plot, some have speculated the sequel could introduce Joker’s troubled love interest Harley Quinn.Released in 2019, Joker provided an origin story for the DC villain through the lens of a psychological thriller.
