‘Shazam! 2’ Director Has ‘No Regrets’ Despite Poor Reviews: ‘I’m Definitely Done With Superheroes for Now’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Florence Pugh said during a recent interview on the “Off Menu” podcast that she “most definitely” abused herself to get into character for “Midsommar.” The Ari Aster-directed horror movie starred Pugh as Dani, a grieving American psychology student who psychologically breaks down when she joins her toxic boyfriend on a trip to Sweden’s midsummer festival. “When I did it, I was so wrapped up in her and I’ve never had this ever before with any of my characters,” Pugh told podcast hosts James Acaster and Ed Gamble. “I’d never played someone that was in that much pain before, and I would put myself in really shitty situations that maybe other actors don’t need to do but I would just be imagining the worst things.”

When he was asked what show he dreamed of casting, he would say “Into the Woods.” And just last year, working with Telsey Casting, Josselson was part of the team that assembled the heralded Broadway revival starring Sara Bareilles, Brian D’Arcy James and Joshua Henry. Josselson is on a bit of a Stephen Sondheim spree — with Telsey he also helped cast the new production of “Sweeney Todd,” starring Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford. And he and his partner at JZ Casting, Katja Zarolinski, just collaborated for the first time with the Pasadena Playhouse to cast “A Little Night Music,” playing at the theater April 25-May 1. 

At this point, it’s safe to call David F. Sandberg‘s “Shazam! Fury Of The Gods” a flop.

Some shaky VFX work led to rumors that Gadot’s face was put on another actor’s body using deepfake technology, but “Shazam” director David F. Sandberg says otherwise. “A certain cameo in ‘Shazam! Fury Of the Gods’ had to be shot in England, but I couldn’t go because of a visa issue so I directed remotely,” Sandberg wrote on Twitter while sharing a video of himself remotely directing Gadot’s cameo scene. “It wasn’t a deepfake as some believe.”
