‘Murder Mystery 2’ Review: Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Another Likable Cheeseball ‘Thin Man’-Meets-Streaming Detective Caper

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic “Murder Mystery,” a cheeky pasteboard detective thriller-meets-middle-aged-romance that became a huge hit for Netflix four years ago, had the inspiration to team Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as Nick and Audrey Spitz, a dweeby-sweet New York couple — he was a cop trying, and failing, to get promoted to detective; she was a hairdresser — whose marriage-on-auto-pilot needed a dose of shock therapy. They got it when they went on the European getaway that Nick, a compulsive cheapskate, had been promising Audrey for 15 years. The two wound up on a yacht, at a geezer aristocrat’s party, which turned out to be his death sentence as the moment he cut everyone there out of his will.

BMI Wins Court Victory in Revenue Dispute With Top Concert Promoters, Wins Its Writers a 138% Raise

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic BMI has prevailed in a New York court in a dispute with Live Nation and AEG over collections of songwriting revenue from live concerts, earning a judgment the performing rights organization said would earn its affiliates 138% higher than the historical rate. Louis L. Stanton of the Southern District of New York issued the ruling giving songwriters and publishers the raise on live revenue. BMI said that as a result of the judgment, that extra money will also come from tickets sold on the secondary market, service fees and VIP packages. BMI president-CEO Mike O’Neill expressed the org’s delight with the court victory, while still throwing shade at the two concert promoters and the North American Concert Promoters Association (NACPA) for years of opposition to carving out a boost in songwriter revenue.

Maryland Expands Medicaid Coverage for Gender-Affirming Treatments

WYPR.There are currently estimated to be around 24,000 transgender individuals in Maryland, nearly one-quarter of whom are enrolled in Medicaid. In 2022, about 100 people received gender-affirming care through Medicaid. The proposed bill is expected to increase that number by about 25 people per year.Maryland health officials say that if each of the estimated 125 people were to utilize every single new gender-affirming treatment under the bill — which is not possible, as some of those procedures or treatments contradict each other, it would increase Medicaid spending by $7.6 million, or 0.6% of the $11.7 billion Maryland spent on Medicaid expenditures in 2019.Opponents of the bill argue that the services that transgender patients can have covered by Medicaid are not provided for other Medicaid recipients.Additionally, cisgender Medicaid recipients aren’t eligible for coverage for services like dentures, home birth services, or treatment for eating disorders, reports Baltimore FOX affiliate WBFF.“It seems discriminatory to utilize Medicaid money for cosmetic surgeries and fertility services that aren’t offered to other people on Medicaid,” Del.

Steve Martin Opens Up in New Audiobook Based on a Year of Interviews With Adam Gopnik (EXCLUSIVE)

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor A bumper crop of Steve Martins will be on display in a new audiobook coming out this spring from Pushkin Industries. “So Many Steves: Afternoons With Steve Martin” will be published on May 2, 2023, by Pushkin, the audio production company co-founded by Malcolm Gladwell and Jacob Weisberg. The project condenses a year’s worth of conversations between Martin, 77, and his friend of more than three decades, New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik. In the audiobook, according to Pushkin, Martin is “more candid than he’s ever been” about his many lives — as a comedian, actor, writer, musician, magician, art collector and more. Over several sessions, all recorded in Martin’s Upper West Side apartment, “So Many Steves” features commentary about Martin’s creative pursuits along with never-before-shared anecdotes from life on set. In their conversations, Martin reflects on his career, from his early days working as a magician to his rise to Hollywood stardom, and what inspires him to keep challenging himself as an artist. Martin, with banjo in hand, scores the audiobook himself.
