Almost two months after joining the club, Ethan Laird has finally made his debut for promotion-chasing Bournemouth as manager Scott Parker has explained the Manchester United loanee's role going forward.
Laird had joined Swansea City on a season-long loan, where he had impressed for Russell Martin's side.
The 20-year-old had made the right wing-back position his own, having made 20 appearances in the Championship.
But during the January transfer window, Bournemouth came in with an offer to take him on loan. United had agreed to accept, with the club providing him with the chance to play as a base right-back - a position which the Red Devils would like to see him play in, rather than in a position which they do not use.
However, Laird can also be used as a right-winger, which Parker has admitted that he's considered.
Since joining though, Laird had been yet to make his debut after suffering with hamstring issues.
This weekend though, he was given his first appearance in a Bournemouth shirt, coming on for a 17-minute cameo.
Parker said: "Yeah he did (impress). I was pleased for Ethan after he came on because he's obviously not had a lot of football since he's been here, so I was pleased for him."
Bouremouth's 4-3-3 will likely mean Laird will largely feature as a right-back for the Cherries.
And if he's to earn that spot, he'll have to compete with Adam Smith and Jack Stacey, who both have had impressive seasons.
Stacey has been the regular, with Smith seen as capable back-up, who got the nod this past weekend.
Parker added: "Adam Smith was back today as well. He brings big belief and big character with good experience. I also think he has huge quality as well."
