A Scots oil worker has died and another left injured following an incident on a rig platform in Qatar.
The incident is understood to have taken place on the facility in the country’s Al Shaheen oil field.
Workers on the platform said the dead man was discovered in a cabin with fatal injuries on Monday night.
Another man, also believed to be Scottish, was injured during the incident.
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died and a man who has been injured in Qatar and are in contact with the local authorities.”
One worker said: “I’ve never experienced anything like this in the industry before.”
The incident comes as the World Cup nears its conclusion in Qatar.
The Al Shaheen oil field is located off the north-east coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, around 50 miles north of Doha.
It is one of the world’s biggest oil fields, producing 300,000 barrels of oil each day.
