A Scots charity legend who scaled mountains and crossed deserts to earn his MBE has blasted Boris Johnson’s plans to knight his dad as a “slap in the face”.
Jock McInnes has raised £2.5million pounds for countless good causes by completing a string of gruelling charity missions over the last two decades.
And the 66-year-old, from Scone, Perthshire, was left furious after it was reported that the former prime minister, who was forced out of Downing Street last September following a series of scandals, had included dad Stanley in a list of names put forward for a knighthood.
Ex-military man Jock, who has taken on some of the most treacherous terrains in the world including walking through the Sahara and Gobi Desert and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus in Russia, branded the plans “absolutely outrageous” and said they make a mockery of the honours system and those who have donated to his causes.
He told the Record: “I have had to summit mountains, cross deserts, rattled tins, ran raffles and auctions etc etc to raise money from the hard-working Scottish public, for which I am eternally grateful.
“It makes a mockery of the whole system.”
Stanley Johnson, a former MEP who campaigns on the environment, is reportedly among as many as 100 names put forward by his son for Cabinet Office vetting.
The former PM had already faced accusations of cronyism in 2020 after he nominated his ex minister brother Jo Johnson for a peerage.
