The expansion of a primary school in Sale has been given the go-ahead despite objections from nearby residents over road safety. Letters of objection were submitted to Trafford's planning team complaining that Temple Road, home to Moorlands Junior School, "as it exists is unsafe".
Moorlands wants to increase its capacity from 250 pupils to 370 by building four more classrooms, a studio and specialist teaching space and extending its hard play area, resiting its multi-use games area and creating more parking spaces for staff. Approval of the application will see the school rise from two-form to three-form entry.
Councillors on Trafford's planning and development management committee have given it the go-ahead. They were told in documents from planning officers: "[The objections] in particular raise concerns about the impact of both the existing and proposed development upon the surrounding highway network.

"Whilst these concerns have been acknowledged, the local planning authority cannot seek to remedy an existing issue through the determination of this application. The test in planning terms is whether these issues would be made materially worse through this development and would conflict with national planning policy."
However, one of the objectors, Tim Field, of nearby Selworth Avenue, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service, that the rejection of those grounds of objection was "farcical". He said: "The main objection is traffic. My view is that I don't mind people coming and parking on this road.
