McLean is set to host a new reality competition series, “The Fashion Hero: A New King of Beautiful.” The series will see twenty-two diverse contestants compete in a bid to “break traditional standards and define a new kind of beauty.” The contestants will be split into four teams, each guided by a coach and celebrity mentors including “Fit2Fat2Fit” host Drew Manning, former Janet Jackson choreographer and director René Elizondo, rockers Simple Plan, Canadian artist Jordyn Sugar, activist Elle van der Burg and Vogue photographer Adi Barkan.

Selome Hailu Hulu has given a series order to “Back in the Groove,” a reality dating series hosted by Taye Diggs. “Back in the Groove” follows three single women in their 40s who feel stuck in the grind of their everyday lives. They check out of their comfort zones and into The Groove Hotel, a magical resort in the Dominican Republic, where the goal is to rediscover their youth, live joyously, and find love with men half their age. Playing on the saying that “you can’t fall in love with someone else until you fall in love with yourself, at the Groove Hotel, the women have the opportunity to do both. Between flings, friendship, true love, or something in between, “Back in the Groove” aims to give older women a chance to take charge, break through double standards, and have fun doing it.

Emily Longeretta MTV is kicking off its first-ever relationship mystery competition series. “Love at First Lie,” hosted by Tori Spelling, will premiere on MTV in the US and in more than 170 countries around the world on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 p.m. The reality show will consist of 12 episodes as the viewers try to figure out who is in real relationships and which pairs are faking it. MTV’s official logline reads, “Power games test their relationships and give insight into who could be telling the truth or lying through their teeth. At the end of each episode, during the Truth Ceremony, the couples must eliminate who they think is lying about their love from the competition. If they guess correctly and kick out liars, they add $25,000 to the prize fund each time. Only one couple can win and take home the entire prize pot, but will they be lovers, or will they be liars?”

The lineup includes Selena Gomez, “Hacks” stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, “Squid Game” stars Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon, Amy Poehler, Diego Luna and more. The ceremony, which aims to celebrate television’s biggest names and shows, will be hosted by “SNL” star Kenan Thompson. The newly announced lineup of presenters for the evening includes four stars nominated for their acting performances: Smart and Einbinder for “Hacks” as well as Lee and Jung for “Squid Game.” Gomez, who notably did not get a nomination for her performance in “Only Murders in the Building,” will still see a chance at holding an Emmy statuette thanks to the show’s 17 awards nods, including for outstanding comedy series.

The Television Academy has opened the envelope on its first batch of presenters for Monday’s 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Six of the eight nominees in this category have been previously nominated, but only two, Ted Lasso and Hacks, were among the nominees last year. The shows dominated the comedy categories with Lasso picking up seven Emmys including the top one, and Hacks emerging triumphant in the all-important writing, directing and Lead Actress contests. With six more contenders, will Lasso and Hacks be dominant on Emmy night once again, especially now that they are in their second seasons and no longer the new guys on the block? Both Barry and Curb Your Enthusiasm are, like Hacks, also from HBO/HBO Max, making that premium network/streamer the only outlet with multiple nominations. That could be a plus for the other networks as they don’t have to compete against themselves, but this kind of dominance still is a nice problem to have for HBO, which has a combined 35 nominations in the Comedy categories. An interesting fact is that this category has defied Emmy history lately by awarding a different show (Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Ted Lasso) the prize for the first time in all their cases in the last four years consecutively. Does that mean we are again ripe for something that has never won?

The winners in the Emmy Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 are once again in the race. The only catch is it could be one of three people: Donald Glover who took it in 2017, Bill Hader who nabbed it in 2018 and 2019, or Jason Sudeikis who won last year. Voters have given us all sorts of reasons to make a prediction for one of this trio. The other three in this year’s race are first-time nominees in the category, but two of them are true veteran showbiz icons. This group of heavy hitters presents us with a category that is not at all easy to prognosticate, one that could go any which way.
