Bob Dylan’s ‘Ionic Original’ re-recording of ‘Blowin’ In The Wind” sells for £1.48million

Bob Dylan singing his 1963 classic ‘Blowin’ In The Wind‘ has sold at auction for £1.48million ($1.78million).The re-recording, which sits on a one-of-one Ionic Original format disc, has marked the first time in 60 years that Dylan has re-recorded the song that was written in 1962 and released as part of the 1963 album ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’.Today’s (July 7) live bidding at Christie’s in London topped out at £1.2million, reports Variety, but an official release sent out by the auction house cited the higher price including commissions. The price was well over the estimate the auction house had posted for the recording, which was in the range of £600,000 ($716,000) to £1million pounds ($1.19million).First announced in April by producer T Bone Burnett, the Ionic Original format used for the re-recorded Dylan track is “lacquer painted onto an aluminum disc, with a spiral etched into it by music. This painting, however, has the additional quality of containing that music, which can be heard by putting a stylus into the spiral and spinning it”.Burnett has touted the new high fidelity format as “the pinnacle of recorded sound.

Access All Areas by Barbara Charone review – my rock’n’roll friends

Barbara Charone, and I have to smile when he praises it for capturing her “unmistakable voice”. Charone worked at WEA Records for nearly 20 years, before setting up the independent PR company MBC – still active today – with Moira Bellas; along the way representing Madonna, REM, Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, Rufus Wainwright, Rod Stewart and many more. As for the voice, most who’ve worked in the music industry (I was on NME for a while) will be acquainted with Charone’s signature booming rasp, and how – warm, friendly, but also formidable – she protects her starry clients like Cerberus at the gates of Hades.

Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’: Inside its wild journey from rejected song to ‘unstoppable’ classic

“Born in the U.S.A.,” “Purple Rain” and “Like a Virgin,” respectively — there was another classic that never saw the light of day.Leonard Cohen’s towering tune “Hallelujah” was rejected — along with the rest of his “Various Positions” album — by then-CBS Records head Walter Yetnikoff. “He said, ‘Leonard, we know you’re great, but we don’t know if you’re any good,’ ” recalls the late singer-songwriter in the new documentary “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, a Journey, a Song,” which opens in theaters Friday. But that would turn out to be only a “minor fall” in the song’s long ascent to the pantheon of iconic tunes.

Next James Bond Won’t Film Until 2024 or Later, ‘Nobody’s in the Running’ to Replace Daniel Craig Yet

Zack Sharf The wait for the next James Bond movie is going to be a long one. Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli confirmed to Deadline that production on the 26th Bond movie is at least two years away, if not longer. The wait makes sense given Broccoli and her team have to find a replacement for Daniel Craig, who finished his run as 007 with the fall 2021 release of “No Time to Die.”“Nobody’s in the running,” Broccoli said when asked about Craig’s successor.

Why Did T Bone Burnett Record a Song With Bob Dylan That Only One Person Can Own? To Disrupt the Art Market

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticAt a recent intimate listening session for a new Bob Dylan record, there was a last-minute mention from someone in the control room of L.A.’s Village Studios that attendees should have their phones off. It probably went without saying, but producer T Bone Burnett added a note of incidental gravity: “Yeah, if this gets out,” he laughed, “my life will be over.”You might hear that kind of hyperbole about not letting leaks get out at other listening sessions for new recordings, but it had a little more weight at this one.
