An emotional Robert Rinder praised Good Morning Britain co-host Kate Garraway as "sunshine in human form" on Tuesday 23 August's show amid her husband's ongoing health battle. He was speaking after Kate, 55, was shortlisted in the National Television Awards 2022 for her latest documentary about her family life, as husband Derek Draper fights long-term complications since being hospitalised with Covid in 2020.
Former lobbyist Derek, 55, reportedly underwent an operation last week in the latest setback in his recovery, weeks after he was rushed to hospital back in July with a "severe sepsis" infection that left him fighting for his life. Hosting GMB with his friend Kate for the first time, 44 year old Robert – best known as Judge Rinder – praised her for her "amazing" new documentary Caring For Derek.
He said: "I just want to say more than anything else, you model the possibility against the backdrop of darkness of being light in every sense. "I also want to say, I'm gonna use language my grandmother [would use], I am kvelling, I am so proud of you today.
