Richie Anderson has been revealed as the second celebrity to depart the Strictly dance floor. After the second public vote, the 34-year-old TV and radio personality found himself up against Fleur East, 34, in the dance-off. Richie, also 34, then performed his Lion King routine with partner Giovanni Pernice for the second time after Saturday evening’s live show. The pair danced their head-turning samba to Hakuna Matata from the much-loved Disney movie.
However, the judges preferred Fleur's Little Mermaid performance on Sunday evening, 9 October, and voted to keep her and newcomer Vito Coppola in the competition. Three of the judges, Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse all voted to save Fleur. “I would like to save the most accomplished technician and that is Fleur and Vito,” said Craig.
Motsi then passed her judgement as she said: “I think it’s heart wrenching because both of you do not deserve to be here, but this is how the public voted. Based on this dance off, I’m going to save Fleur and Vito.” It was then Anton’s turn to make his decision, as he said: “I thought that was a well danced, dance off. I thought both couples performed really well.
“I think one couple was a bit more sure-footed about their performance and at a slightly better level of artistry about what they were doing. So the couple I would like to save, are Fleur and Vito.” Shirley Ballas meanwhile, revealed that she had voted to save Richie. “With the two couples the public put in the bottom two, I would’ve saved Richie," she told the audience.
