‘Reboot’ Stars Talk Sitcom’s ‘Scarily Accurate’ Depiction of Hollywood

Clayton Davis Jordan Peele is looking to push boundaries as a writer, director and producer every time he creates something new. “I’m going to keep trying to come up with original stories, and meet the expectations the audience has for me,” Peele says. “I hope to continue to lift original filmmakers up.” On this episode of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, we sit down with Academy Award winner Peele to discuss his two feature film projects in the awards conversation: the sci-fi horror film “Nope,” which he wrote and directed, and the animated feature “Wendell & Wild,” which he voiced, co-wrote and produced. Netflix has announced a number of returning cast members for upcoming sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as police detective Axel Foley in the fourth installment of the franchise, which is currently in production at Netflix after they acquired the rights in 2019.As announced by the streaming service on Wednesday (September 21), Murphy will be joined by his original co-stars Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot in the sequel.In the original 1984 film, Reinhold and Ashton portrayed Detective Billy Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart respectively. Caroline Framke Chief TV Critic It stands to reason that “Reboot” is immediately an entertainment biz turducken of industry lingo and in-jokes. From “Modern Family” creator Steven Levitan, the new Hulu series depicts the reboot — also airing on Hulu — of a family sitcom and all the behind-the-scenes drama that inevitably follows. Levitan, whose credits include “Just Shoot Me” and “Wings,” obviously knows his way around a multi-cam, and his pilot co-writer John Enbom made a meal in “Party Down” of exploiting the seediest corners of Hollywood ambition. The combination of the two sensibilities makes for a (mostly) realistic peek into life on a studio lot, but that’s probably a given. That it ends up (mostly) toothless comes as a genuine surprise.

James Corden had Keegan-Michael Key on Monday’s episode of “The Late Late Show,” and he roped to “Key and Peel” and “Schmigadoon!” star into one of his more fun recurring gags, “Improvised TED Talks.” The topic was “The life-changing power of vacuuming in the nude,” and since we can’t top that here, we’ll just get right to it.So the gag, for those who don’t know, is Corden has one of his celebrity guests give a totally unrehearsed, unresearched TED Talk on a topic they don’t know about in advance. Comedy very generally ensues, especially on Monday’s episode since Key is, you know, something of a well regarded comedy person.“You know, ladies and gentlemen, I find that, when I’m at home and I’m, uh, doing the house work, that my wife becomes very happy,” Key said as he kicked off his awkward lecture. “I have also found that when I have no clothing on in my home, my wife also is happy.

Reboot on . I haven't been this excited about a new comedy since premiered in 2009. Makes sense: Reboot also comes from Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan. In the series, a writer (played by ) decides she wants to reboot a popular '90s sitcom, which will remind you of Full House meets My Two Dads.

Keegan-Michael Key) who unsuccessfully pursued a film career after the show (but nobody appreciated his insights from having attended the Yale School of Drama); Bree Marie Larson (Judy Greer), who has a romantic past with Reed, followed up the sitcom with a stint on a terrible sci-fi show, then left Hollywood to marry the Duke of a small Nordic country; Clay Barber (Johnny Knoxville), who did some stints of stand up comedy after “Step Right Up,” in between getting arrested for disorderly conduct, and Zack (Calum Worthy), the show’s former child star who’s all grown up now and feels the need to prove it by driving a red sports car and telling his fellow cast members that although they’re back together for this show, “It’s different now, because we’ve all had sex.” Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex Girlfriend”) co-stars as Hannah, a writer pitching this reboot who wants to make an edgier version where the sitcom characters “don’t do the right thing anymore”, and Paul Reiser co-stars as Gordon, the original “Step Right Up” creator who wants the reboot to be more traditional. Naturally, this leads to some awkward clashing between Gordon and Hannah, as they have different creative approaches to this reboot project. Shows that attempt to be meta can sometimes get too inside baseball with showbiz references, but “Reboot” is clever and funny, for the most part.
