Robert Lewandowski is the best striker in Germany, according to Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
The Bayern Munich forward picked up Best Men’s Player for 2021 at FIFA’s annual awards ceremony on Monday after another amazing 12 months.
This comes after he won the accolade for the first time in 2020.
The Poland star netted 69 goals last year, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2013 feat for Real Madrid. His goals led Bayern to their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title, and a DFL Supercup.
Lewandowski also broke Gerd Muller’s 49-year league record of most goals scored in a calendar year when he netted his 43rd strike in his club’s final game of December, a 4-0 win over Wolfsburg.
This campaign, he has already scored an incredible 34 goals in 26 appearances.
Recent talk in Germany has mostly been about the future of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
The Norway international has scored 22 goals in 19 games across all competitions this term and he has been hotly linked to both Manchester United and Manchester City.
But Red Devils manager Rangnick believes that he is not the top dog in the Bundesliga.
When asked about Lewandowski’s FIFA Best award achievement, the German told United’s official website that the Pole is an ‘outstanding” player.
Rangnick said: “Robert has been one of the best, if not the best, central strikers in Germany.
“For sure, in Germany and also in Europe. He scored 41 or 42 goals last season in the German Bundesliga and an additional couple of goals in the Champions League and in the German Cup so he’s an amazing, outstanding player.”
Over the course of his career, Lewandowski has won nine Bundesliga titles, a Champions League, four DFL Pokals, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
