Magnolia Pictures Buys North American Rights for ‘The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed’ Following Cannes Debut (EXCLUSIVE)

Brent Lang Executive Editor Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to Joanna Arnow’s “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed.” The film, which recently world-premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight section and is executive produced by Sean Baker, is a comedy about a 30-something New York woman, who is played by Arnow. It follows her as time passes in her long-term casual BDSM relationship and low-level corporate job, and chronicles her quarrelsome Jewish family.  Critics liked Arnow’s witty and fresh take, with Variety calling it one of the festival’s true discoveries and hailing the filmmaker as “a raw, intimate and more importantly extremely funny new talent.“ The film is Arnow’s narrative feature film debut following shorts including “Bad Dancing,” which won the Berlinale Silver Bear, “Laying Out,” and the feature doc “I hate myself:).”

Rian Johnson, Lee Sung Jin and More Directors Competing for First Emmys

Hunter Ingram The Emmy race has never been more crowded for those working behind the camera on TV’s most acclaimed series. While these directors below have never won Emmys, their work on this year’s juggernaut dramas, side-splitting comedies and affecting limited series could change that come September. Hikari The titular “Beef” between Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) in Netflix’s hit limited series wouldn’t be as raw if not for Hikari’s direction in the pilot episode. Relatively unknown to many audiences, Hikari’s shorts and feature have played film festivals like Berlin and Tribeca and she’s helmed episodes of Max’s “Tokyo Vice.” But “Beef” serves as an undeniable pronouncement of what’s to come.

‘The Graduates’ Review: School Shooting Drama Lacks Depth

“The Graduates,” which counts Chloé Zhao and John Cho among its executive producers and gets its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, revolves around school shooting survivors who are unable to move on even one year later. It’s a compelling subject, for sure, but one on which no dramatic treatments have been nearly as astute or profound as what’s already been in the news. Genevieve (Mina Sundwall of Netflix’s “Lost in Space”), who lost her boyfriend in a shooting and owes her teacher several assignments, doubts her test score is sufficient to get her into college and contemplates taking a gap year post-graduation. ‘The View’ Devolves Into Chaos After Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin Spar Over Pence: ‘This Is Not What the Show’s About’ (Video)

“The View” hasn’t seen a truly heated fight at the table in quite some time, but that streak ended on Wednesday when the first segment of the show ended in a near-yelling match between hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin, which moderator Whoopi Goldberg cut off by sending the show to commercial.Leading up to the argument was a discussion about former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey governor Chris Christie both officially declaring their candidacy for president in 2024. Once again, the women agreed that they don’t really see a lane for either man to have a real shot in the GOP pool, and wondered why they’re running at all.Knowing that Farah Griffin worked directly for Pence, both Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar looked to her for insight on what Pence’s strategy might actually be, and what she thinks of his candidacy.

DirecTV Inks NFL Sunday Ticket Deal for Bars, Restaurants and Other Businesses After YouTube Nabs Retail Rights

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor DirecTV announced a multiyear deal to sell the NFL’s Sunday Ticket out-of-market games package to commercial venues in the U.S., starting with the 2023 season. Under the pact with the NFL’s EverPass Media, DirecTV will continue to offer the Sunday football games to customers including casinos, restaurants, bars, hotel lounges and retail shops. The announcement comes after DirecTV lost its 28-year hold on Sunday Ticket for consumers, with Google securing a seven-year deal with the NFL to sell the package via YouTube. The satellite TV operator didn’t announce pricing for Sunday Ticket — which includes all Sunday day games broadcast by CBS and Fox — under the new commercial agreement. In past years, DirecTV’s pricing for the package has been tiered based on fire code occupancy (FCO) rates starting at $650/season for establishments with a certified FCO of 1-100, stepping up to $6,000/season for establishments with capacity of 101-200 and even higher for larger venues.
