Two fathers have been accused of shooting each other's daughters during the course of a road rage altercation in Florida this week.  William Hale, 36, and Frank Allison, 43, have both been charged with attempted murder following a driving dispute that resulted in the two drivers allegedly firing shots at each other that struck the other person's daughter, WOFL-TV reported. The Nassau County Sheriff's Office says both parties were speeding and "brake checking each other" and seemingly were playing a "cat and mouse game" while driving erratically along US Highway 1 in Nassau County, Florida.

Nikki Finke, Deadline Founder and Iconoclastic Journalist, Dies at 68

Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer Nikki Finke, a tenacious journalist who revolutionized entertainment reporting with what became the Hollywood trade website Deadline, died Sunday morning in Boca Raton, Flor. after a prolonged illness. She was 68. After spending the beginning of her career reporting on everything from Moscow (for the Associated Press) to Washington, D.C. (for Newsweek), in 2002, Finke started a column for L.A. Weekly called Deadline Hollywood, which she took online in March 2006 as Deadline Hollywood Daily in an effort to better cover up-to-the-minute news. Rather than focus on celebrity or content, Finke placed a singularly unforgiving spotlight on the studio executives and high-powered agents who make the industry run. She was unafraid to call out what she believed to be ill-conceived or substandard decision-making in the bluntest possible terms, and her take-no-prisoners approach made her site a must-read in a media ecosystem Finke saw as excessively fawning and credulous.

Democratic operatives disguise partisan websites as local news to influence midterms

Democratic operatives are reportedly behind dozens of outlets presenting themselves as local news websites while pushing pro-Democratic Party content.  A network of approximately 51 separate U.S. news sites have disguised themselves with local names in order to push politically advantageous reports under the guise of regional journalism, according to Axios.  The individual sites are held under the umbrella of a for-profit company called Local Report Inc, which was first incorporated in Florida in 2021. Each site boasts numerous articles and editorial contribution from The American Independent, a progressive media group started by Media Matters co-founder David Brock, Axios reports.

One America News Turns to Free Broadcasts After Pay-TV Dumps Conservative Channel

Bloomberg reports that the pro-Donald Trump conservative channel is aiming to replace the audience it lost after pay-TV providers DirectTV and Verizon dropped it from their lineups.Founder and owner Robert Herring Sr. earlier this year urged One America viewers to pressure their providers to reinstate the channel, with no success. So now, the station, which has been accused of spreading misinformation about the 2020 election and still faces several lawsuits related to its reporting, is going old-school and setting up free, over-the-air subchannels in about 30 markets, with plans to reach about 100 by the end of the year, according to Bloomberg.Among the markets OAN is targeting: Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Wichita, Kansas and Jacksonville, Florida.Last month, the company said it inked a deal to launch OAN 22 states with Zito Media of Potter County, Pennsylvania, stating that it was moving quickly to get its signal out before the midterm elections.Subchannels are a little-noticed corner of the TV business that is growing as more people cancel pay-TV and reinstall antennas on their homes to pick up free broadcast stations.

Human Rights Campaign Accepts Disney Donation, Months After Rejecting It

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer The Human Rights Campaign has agreed to accept a contribution from the Walt Disney Co., months after rejecting it at the height of the “Don’t Say Gay” controversy. The move comes as Disney continues to try to heal the damage done by its response to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, which restricts classroom instruction on LGBTQ identity. Disney initially declined to take a public position on the measure, leading to a major backlash among its employees. As the furor mounted, CEO Bob Chapek announced that the company would oppose the law and make a $5 million donation to HRC and other gay rights organizations. But HRC rejected the money, saying it first wanted to see the company “build on their public commitment” by working closely with LGBTQ organizations.
