The Queen made a secret trip to visit her horses after her last minute withdrawal from the first day of the Royal Windsor Show, it has been revealed. Thursday marks the first time the Queen has missed the Royal Windsor Show in 79 years.The annual show is a four day event which features competitions in three equestrian disciplines. It is the UK's largest outdoor horse show.The Queen was due to be driven from her private apartment in the Windsor Castle to the event, in order to watch one of her horses compete.
However, the monarch's appearance was cancelled just minutes before it was due to happen. The last minute decision for the monarch to skip the event has sparked further concerns over the health of the 96 year old Queen. A source has now told The Sun: “She simply changed her mind." It is understood that while the Queen missed the main event, she did still make a private visit to the Royal Mews to see her horses.The monarch has 14 horses competing in a variety of events this year.
The Queen was last seen at a public event in March, when she attended the memorial service for her late husband, The Duke of Edinburgh in Westminster Abbey. On Tuesday, Her Majesty missed the State Opening of Parliament for only the third time in her reign. Previously, she has only missed State Openings in 1959 when she was pregnant with Prince Andrew, and in 1963 when she was pregnant with Prince Edward.
Prince Charles represented the Queen this year, with Prince WIlliam also in attendance. Episodic mobility problems were cited as the reason for her missing the State Opening. With the Queen's ongoing mobility issues in mind, it is believed that Her Majesty will not be attending events, unless the palace reports other wise.
