Queen Elizabeth II's coffin has begun it's final journey to Windsor Castle. The coffin had been Lying-in-State in at Westminster Hall since last Thursday, but was taken in procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey on Monday morning, where Her Majesty's state funeral service took place.Following the funeral, the coffin traveled in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch, and then to Windsor. Once there, the coffin was placed inside the State Hearse.

Ahead of the Queen's funeral, Buckingham Palace released a previously unseen photograph of the Queen that was taken in May before her Platinum Jubilee. An official statement read: "Ahead of Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral, a new photograph has been released.

Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on Monday 19 September will take place at Westminster Abbey, and King Charles III, 73, confirmed that the day will be a national bank holiday. On the morning of the sombre day, the lying-in-State period will end and the Queen’s Coffin will be taken in procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey, where the State Funeral Service will take place.

The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drama continued into the weekend as it wasn’t clear if the Sussexes would be attending a pre-funeral reception at Buckingham Palace on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – who settled in California after stepping down as senior royals in 2020 – reportedly initially received an invitation to the Sunday evening reception, but conflicting reports said they were and weren’t expected to attend.  According to the Telegraph, they have now been uninvited because palace officials insisted that the reception hosted by King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, is only for working royals, which Harry and Meghan are not. The King and Queen Consort are visiting Wales today, as the late Queen's lying in state continues at Westminster Hall. King Charles III has begun his first visit to Wales as monarch and will start his tour by attending a service of prayer and reflection for the life of the Queen at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff. Charles arrived by helicopter with the Queen Consort and travelled by state limousine in bright sunshine to the service, which is also being attended by Prime Minister Liz Truss and leading figures from Wales.

Following the death of The Queen last week, King Charles has had a lot of changes to deal with as he became the new monarch following his mother’s sad passing. Alongside his grief, the new King, supported by his devoted wife, Camilla, Queen Consort must now navigate his mother’s funeral, his impending coronation and readjust to his life as the head of state, after spending so much of his life waiting to follow in his mother’s formidable footsteps.

On the afternoon of Thursday 8 September, Buckingham Palace announced the sad news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's passing. But hours before her death, the Royal Family were informed of her "hours to live" condition, with many members rushing to get to her bedside.

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon.

In an official statement, which was shared on social media, the palace confirmed that Her Majesty died on September 8, 2022, UK time.
