A TV reporter, who was robbed whilst live on air reporting on the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, says she has been left stunned by the police response to her reporting the incident. Dominique Metzger says officials asked her what punishment she thought would be suitable for the criminal who stole from her handbag.
The incident occurred whilst the Argentinian journalist was reporting the build-up to the opener between Ecaudaor and Qatar. The World Cup's first match was played out last night with the Ecuadorians running out 2-0 winners thanks to a double from Enner Valencia.
During the live broadcast from the Corniche area of Doha, prior to the fixture, items from Dominque's handbag were stolen. She reported the incident to the police and was left shocked by their bizarre response, reports the Mirror.
Dominque said: "I went to the station and that was when the cultural differences began. The policewoman said to me: 'We have high-tech cameras everywhere and we are going to locate him [the thief] with face detection.
"What do you want the justice system to do when we find him?'"
The Argentinian was left baffled by the statement from the officers and asked her for further clarification. Metzger added: " [The policewoman said:] What justice do you want?
"What sentence do you want us to give him? Do you want him to be sentenced to five years in prison?
"Do you want him to be deported?" The confused journalist did not request for a specific punishment for the thief and stated that she only wished for her items to be returned.
It is unknown whether Dominque is yet to receive the items back that were stolen out of her handbag during the TV broadcast.
