Purdue University student killed by 'Multiple Sharp Force Traumatic Injuries,' roommate in custody: officials

A college student in Georgia was killed in an awful accident while out on an extravagant date.

Dane Partridge, an Idaho father and U.S. Army veteran, died this week while "fighting for freedom in Ukraine," his family announced.  His father, Dennis Partridge, wrote on Facebook on Saturday that his son was in a coma after being critically injured by a Russian tank blast.  Dane Partridge died while fighting in Ukraine when he was struck by a Russian tank round, his family said.  (Facebook/Honoring Dane Partridge) Partridge was being treated at Kyiv military hospital and was taken off life support on Tuesday, his family announced.  "He was a fine soldier who fought with valor and bravery on the battlefield," his family wrote on Facebook.

The FBI is tracking a lead in the Gilgo Beach serial killings case to Alabama.  In a Friday Facebook post, the Mobile Police Department said that the FBI is seeking relatives and friends of a long-deceased man named Elijah "Lige" Howell/Howard, who lived from 1927-1963.  Howard lived in Prichard, Alabama, with his wife Carrie and passed away in Mobile in 1963 "with Ms.  Lillie Mae Wiggins Packer," police wrote.

The USS Cole suffered a surprise attack by al Qaeda suicide bombers while at port in Yemen — killing 17 American sailors and wounding about three dozen others, on this day in history, Oct. 12, 2000.  It proved an ill-heeded harbinger of much more terrifying al-Qaeda attacks on the United States' homeland 11 months later.  "Sadly, it took the grievous attack on 9/11 for us to collectively realize that al Qaeda presented a truly consequential threat to America’s security," Admiral Christopher W. Grady, now vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the nation's second-highest ranking military officer, wrote during a 20th anniversary retrospective of the attack.

An Indiana man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for abusing his 12-year-old son and starving the boy to death. Monroe Circuit Judge Christine Talley Haseman said Friday that nothing could justify the physical abuse and withholding of food and water that Luis Eduardo Posso Jr. inflicted on his young child.

A man suspected of killing two people early Sunday in northern Indiana was fatally shot during a shootout with police, authorities said. The encounter between the man and local and state officers occurred around 5:30 a.m.

The suspect accused of killing his roommate at Purdue University claimed he had been "blackmailed" on Friday during his first court appearance.  In a video, speaking to reporters, 22-year-old Ji Min "Jimmy" Sha said he was "very sorry" when asked if he had a message for the family of the victim, 20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda.  Sha is facing a preliminary charge of murder.  According to court documents, he was granted a 72-hour continuance in his case inside the Tippecanoe County Jail’s magistrate court.  Fox 59 said that while court documents filed against Sha Friday give more insight into the death of Chheda, they provide little insight into his motive. Ji Min Sha, 22, was identified as the suspect by Purdue Police Chief Lesley Wiete during a press conference.

Miss USA 2022 competition was reportedly “rigged,” the Miss Universe Organization revealed they will be conducting an “active review” into the claims, which the Miss USA Organization and its winner have both denied.“We are aware of the concerns that have been brought forth by this year’s Miss USA contestants,” the organization told The Post in an emailed statement. “We commend the women for bringing these issues to our attention and will always be an organization that encourages women to use their voice.”The Miss USA title winner represents the country in Miss Universe each year, which means Miss USA 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel will compete on a global scale next year.“We firmly believe everyone has a right to express their thoughts and experiences without retaliation and bullying,” the Miss Universe rep added.

In July, a 29-year-old woman's estranged husband traveled from Georgia to her apartment building in Chicago to kill her and himself in a murder-suicide after she posted about their failed marriage on social media. Now, Shazia Khan, mother of deceased TikTok star, Sania Khan, is accusing her daughter's building of facilitating the murder-suicide in a wrongful death lawsuit filed earlier this week.

The suspect accused of killing 20-year-old Purdue University student Varun Manish Chheda said "I love my family" before entering jail on Wednesday after being charged with murder. Ji Min Sha, 22, was identified as the suspect and made a 911 call at 12:44 a.m.
