A month on from Her Majesty the Queen’s death, doting grandson Prince William reportedly travelled back to Scotland to visit Balmoral. During the trip, the father-of-three, 40, made a pilgrimage to Craigowan Lodge, which was lovingly known as the late Queen’s bolthole. The property on the family’s 50,000 acre estate is said to have been used for informal events over the years, and was a “favourite” of Queen Elizabeth’s.
It’s said to hold a place close to William’s heart as well, as it’s where he used to go hunting with his grandfather Prince Philip. The last time Prince William visited the Scottish estate was when he rushed there alongside other members of the Royal Family in an attempt to be by his grandmother’s side in her final hours.
Hours before the sad news of the Queen's passing, the Duke of Cambridge was pictured in the driving seat with uncle Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, by his side while Sophie, Countess of Wessex ,and his uncle Edward, Earl of Wessex, were in the backseats. Queen Elizabeth’s cause of death has since been revealed to have been old age, as per the late monarch’s death certificate.
She died aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland, on 8 September at 15:10pm. She's said to have died "peacefully" with her family at her bedside - her beloved corgis Muick and Sandy included.
