Prime Video Announces Fate of 'A League of Their Own' and 'Citadel' for Second Seasons

Naman Ramachandran Leads Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden kicked off the global tour of Prime Video series “Citadel” with its Asia Pacific premiere in Mumbai on Monday. The series, created by Amazon Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, with David Weil serving as showrunner and executive producer, revolves around independent global spy agency Citadel, which has been destroyed by syndicate Manticore. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives and have remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. The six episode series also features Lesley Manville in a pivotal role.

Another year, another super-expensive TV series to premiere on Prime Video. And while the $250 million budget for “Citadel” isn’t as costly as “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power,” it indicates that Amazon wants its new spy thriller to be another juggernaut for its streamer.

David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller, “Dead Ringers,” starring Jeremy Irons, isn’t in most Top 3 lists for the filmmaker. Sure, there are fans of the original, but it doesn’t have the devoted fanbase as films such as “The Fly,” “Crash,” “Scanners,” and “A History of Violence,” for example.

The story follows narratives of Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson) and Maxine Chapman (Chanté Adams) as Shaw secures a spot on the Rockford Peaches in the league and Chapman is turned away but later finds a spot in the minor leagues.

Prime Video has renewed A League Of Their Own for a second and final season. Following months of talks with Sony TV, the series will end with a four-episode Season 2, sources have confirmed.
