Police have swooped on a dilapidated building in Greenock and seized a haul of cannabis valued at over £160,000 in one of several high-value drug raids made this week. Officers were tipped off to the plantation in a disused building in Nicolson Street in the Inverclyde town at around 6pm on New Year's Day.
They entered and searched the building, capturing the six-figure haul of drugs, before establishing a cordon around the scene. Images shared with the Record show a large van parked outside the premises as officers removed the high-value find from within.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident and was expected to appear in court earlier this week. The public has been advised to expect an increased police presence in the area while the cache of drugs is removed from the property.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of cannabis being grown at a property on Nicolson Street in Greenock around 6pm on Sunday, January 1. The cannabis has been valued at approximately £163,000.
"A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery. He is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, January 4. Police activity is expected to continue at the premises in the coming days and the local community is thanked for their understanding.”
The haul came just days before two other significant seizures of the controlled plant elsewhere in Scotland. Cops descended on a property in Milnbank Road, Dundee, on Thursday January 5 to enact a drugs search warrant.
There, they impounded cannabis with an estimated street value of £70-90,000. A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged find and is expected to appear at Dundee
