Police Scotland have announced that their training headquarters is to reopen after its closure following traces of Legionella bacteria being discovered in the water system last month.
The force had to temporarily suspend training at Tulliallan, Kincardine, on December 6 to allow remedial works to be completed after the bacteria was discovered on site.
However, they announced tonight that the training facility will open again from Monday January 9 but said parts of the building will remain off limits for the time being.
Police Scotland confirmed nobody was infected with Legionnaires' disease, which causes severe lung infections, during the scare.
Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor says the risk was 'very low' but believes shutting the building was the correct decision.
She said: “We have had no confirmed cases and while the risk to people was extremely low, it was right to close Tulliallan while necessary work, cleaning and testing took place.
“Our water safety experts have confirmed officers and staff can safely return to Tulliallan and training courses can resume.
“Measures including routine water sampling, temperature control, increased flushing and robust disinfecting will continue across the site and some rooms remain isolated for the time being.
“As at all times, the safety of officers and staff, and those attending our buildings is a key priority.”
