Tom Grater International Film ReporterEgyptian film critic Ahmed Shawky has resigned from his post as artistic director of the Cairo International Film Festival after past controversial social media posts re-emerged.Shawky had been acting as the event’s artistic director since its 2019 edition and had only recently taken over the role on a permanent basis.

Alexis Ohanian's seat on Reddit's Board of Directors has been filled.  On Wednesday, Reddit announced that Michael Seibel has been selected to replace Ohanian, making him the social media site's first Black board member. Seibel is a partner at the startup accelerator Y Combinator and serves as CEO of the YC startup accelerator program, which helped launch Reddit back in 2005.

Jordan Moreau GoFundMe has suspended conservative political commentator Candace Owens’s fundraiser for an Alabama cafe whose co-owner criticized the George Floyd protests. Owens also came under fire for controversial comments about Floyd while speaking with Glenn Beck.Owens raised more than $200,000 for Birmingham’s Parkside Cafe, whose co-owner Michael Dykes said Floyd was a “thug” and protesters were “idiots” in a text message to a co-worker that was posted online.

Michael Moore’s controversial documentary “Planet of the Humans” has been removed from YouTube due to a copyright dispute. The filmmaker executive produced the documentary along with Jeff Gibbs, who issued a statement calling the removal from YouTube a “blatant act of censorship.” The film was streaming for free on YouTube and asked questions about purported “green solutions” to fossil fuels, arguing that they offer only a false sense of progress on environmental issues and climate change.
