Tenants will soon be legally allowed to keep pets in their rented properties, with new rules set to be put in place which mean landlords must consider requests to keep pets in their homes. Many home owners have banned pets in their properties due to high maintenance costs, meaning those who rent have not been allowed to keep their furry friends if they move in.
However, this all looks set to change, with the government's Renters Reform Bill scheduled to be published today (16 June) including new rules which mean pets can longer be banned by landlords. The change will be welcome news to many renters, as the majority of rental properties on the market forbid pets, with just seven percent of landlords offering pet-friendly accommodation.

Landlords were previously allowed to turn away potential tenants if they had pets, due to the high demand for rental homes.
