Showtime has ordered a half-hour scripted comedy pilot from Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody.“Seasoned” is inspired by the couple’s real life and relationship. It follows the delightfully tumultuous relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple played by the married actors – roles they’ve been rehearsing for the last 43 years.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Comedian Bert Kreischer is sticking with Netflix, signing with the streamer to film two more stand-up comedy specials. This reps the fourth and fifth specials for Kreischer at Netflix, following “Razzle Dazzle” (2023), “Hey Big Boy” (2020), and “Secret Time” (2018). The first of the two specials will be filmed by Kreischer at the Mahaffey Theater in St.

The shows join a list of nine total renewals including “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (season 34), “Bachelor in Paradise” (season 9), “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (season 4), “Celebrity Jeopardy!” (season 2), “Not Dead Yet” (season 2), “Shark Tank” (season 15). The news comes on the heels of several cancellations including “Big Sky,””Alaska Daily,” and “The Company You Keep” (the latter shows were axed after just one season). Announcements for “The Rookie: Feds,” and “Home Economics” will be revealed at a later date. The “Conners” will return for a sixth season. The show’s Season 5 finale, which aired on May 3, scored a 0.45 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers during its 8 p.m. timeslot, ultimately defeating the series finale of “The Goldbergs,” which earned a 0.30 rating among the key demo and drew in 2.5 million total viewers as the show came to a close after 10 years on the network.

The Conners are sticking around at ABC. The series has been renewed for its sixth season, the network announced Tuesday.

Variety has confirmed the network has canceled “Ziwe” after just two seasons and has picked up Mandy Patinkin’s “Seasoned” to series, delivering a six-episode order. Hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, the talk show focused on presenting trending hot topics concerning race, politics and other cultural issues as well as musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and comedic sketches. Guests on Season 2 included Drew Barrymore, Rowan Blanchard, Blake Griffin, Emily Ratajkowski and Mia Khalifa, among others. The series first debuted in 2021. With the loss, that leaves Showtime without a current late night talk show following the cancellation of “Desus & Mero” (which Ziwe also served as a writer on before moving to her own show). The changes come as part of Showtime’s reevaluation of the programming slate after MTV Entertainment Group president and CEO Chris McCarthy stepped in to oversee the cabler once former CEO David Nevins left in October.

The comedy series followed Simon (Sultan Salahuddin) and Kareme (Kareme Young), best friends who just graduated from community college and are ready to take over the world, but are stuck working at a rent-to-own furniture store until they do. MTV Entertainment Studios produced the series. Executive producers included Bashir Salahuddin, Riddle, Michael Blieden, Jax Media’s Tony Hernandez and MTV’s Ari Pearce, Kristyn Deignan and Tara Power. “While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a fourth season of South Side, we are so proud of the rich world Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin created,” an HBO Max spokesperson said, confirming that the series would not be moving forward. “We thank them and Michael Blieden, Tony Hernandez, the supremely talented cast and crew and our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios.”

“Fire Island,” Hulu’s LGBTQ+ ensemble dramedy from writer and star Joel Kim Booster and director Andrew Ahn, will be recognized at the 32nd annual Gotham Awards with its Ensemble Tribute. BreAnna Bell Vinessa Shaw has signed on to join Apple TV+’s “Swagger” for Season 2, Variety has learned. Inspired by NBA champion Kevin Durant’s experiences as a kid, the sports drama takes viewers deep inside in the world of elite youth basketball clubs and follows the lives of the players, their families and coaches and “the game within the game.” Outside of the gym, the show offers a glimpse into what it’s like to grow up in America. The series is created by Reggie Rock Bythewood. Shaw joins the series playing Diane, the Chairwoman of the Cedar Cove Prep School Board and also the mother of one of the school’s basketball players who is very invested in her son’s performance on the court.

Fishman played DJ Tanner in the series, reprising the role he played for 10 seasons on “Roseanne.” Exact details on how Fishman will be written out of the show are currently under wraps, but it will supposedly leave the door open for him to return. Jayden Rey, who plays DJ’s daughter Mary in the show, will also not be back as a series regular, though she will appear in a guest star role. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, Jay R. Ferguson, and Katey Sagal will all return for the new season. Fishman first began playing DJ Tanner in 1988 in the second episode of “Roseanne.” He stayed with the show throughout its first nine seasons, returning along with the rest of the original cast for the 2018 revival. He has also directed five episodes of “The Conners” since 2020, most recently directing the Season 4 episode “Messy Situation, Miscommunication and Academic Probation.”

Michael Fishman and Jayden Rey will not return as series regulars in the upcoming fifth season of “The Connors,” TheWrap has learned.Fishman’s name is not on the Season 5 lead sheet. In the show he portrays D.J.
