EXCLUSIVE: Nicholas Logan and Jeri Ryan have joined the cast of Dark Winds, AMC’s Western noir thriller series based on Tony Hillerman’s popular Leaphorn & Chee book series. Logan joins as a Season 2 series regular and Ryan in a recurring role opposite Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon in the series from creator Graham Roland and executive producers George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford.
Ordered to series last year, “Dark Winds” was 35 years in the making, with executive producer Robert Redford optioning Hillerman’s book collection more than three decades ago. Along with Redford, the series is executive produced by creator Graham Roland, George R.R.

The first season will consist of six episodes total, as will the second season. The show is based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman.Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, the series follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes.
AMC released the trailer for its upcoming original series, “Dark Winds.” Based on the “Leaphorn & Chee” books by Tony Hillerman, the noir thriller premieres June 12 on AMC and AMC+ with its first two episodes and a new episode each Sunday thereafter.“Dark Winds” takes place in 1971, on a secluded outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Ariz. The series follows Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he is overcome by a string of what seem to be completely unrelated crimes.

It follows Navajo police officer Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he investigates the murder of a young Navajo woman and begins to uncover ominous, dark forces at work in a 1970’s ‘reservation’ world. Season 1 will consist of six episodes.
