MaXXXine is coming!
It’s wild to see a jumping-around-in-time horror franchise come together at A24 and one that’s not even built on a title brand at the same time. Written and directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, “MaXXXine” is the third and final (?) installment in his slasher trilogy that began with “X” and “Pearl.” “X” was basically a kind of sexploitation horror/cautionary tale about fame set in the late 1970s about a cast and crew who gather to make a pornographic film on an elderly couple’s rural Texas property, but things go horribly awry.
MaXXXine. As reported by Variety, James Hunter issued the lawsuit on Friday (January 12), in which he claims that he suffered a concussion after Goth kicked him.The suit states that Hunter worked for three days on production of the film, playing the role of “Dead Parishioner”. In one scene, Goth was required to run past him, step over him and keep running.
If this is true, it’s unconscionable!

In a world where studios are desperate to create the next big franchise, it’s always interesting to see these sorts of things pop up in a truly organic way. “John Wick” is a good example of this.

EXCLUSIVE: Hot off the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness premiere of the genre film Pearl, writer-director Ti West has signed for management at LBI Entertainment.
We know that Martin Scorsese isn’t a huge fan of superhero films. However, did you know that the man behind “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull” is a big fan of indie horror? Well, apparently he is, as Scorsese recently gave the new horror film, “Pearl,” a rave review.
That opening weekend would be just a tad higher than the $17.2 million opening for fellow Sony release “Where the Crawdads Sing,” which legged out to an $86 million domestic run thanks to strong word-of-mouth from female audiences. For “The Woman King,” Sony is hoping for a similar long box office run during this sluggish box office period as audience buzz builds. So far, it looks like Sony’s hopes will be fulfilled.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Fresh off its enthusiastic world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, the Viola Davis-led historical epic “The Woman King” will touch down in 3,700 North American movie theaters over the weekend. The domestic box office desperately needs a boost, but will U.S. audiences be as receptive as festival-goers in Canada? Touted as the real-life “Black Panther,” Sony’s “The Woman King” is aiming to collect at least $15 million in its domestic debut. Independent box office observers are optimistic that opening weekend returns could reach $17 million to $20 million. Yet Sony, who co-financed the movie with eOne, is projecting $12 million, in line with 2018’s “Widows,” which also starred Davis. Replicating those ticket sales, even with tempered pandemic-expectations, would be tepid-at-best since “The Woman King” carries a $50 million price tag.
Mia Goth is celebrating some exciting news about her new movie Pearl!
A subversive throwback to ’70s sleaze, “X” has more on its mind than shock value. That’s not to say that down-and-dirty pleasures were hard to come by in Ti West’s A24-produced slasher (which hit theaters earlier this year), about amateur adult filmmakers facing off with murderous octogenarians on a decrepit farm in rural 1979 Texas.
Ti West is about to complete the quickest trilogy in horror history. Back in March, the filmmaker released “X,” a ‘Texas Chainsaw’-esque slasher set in the ‘70s and following a porno film crew as they are dispatched one by one.
EXCLUSIVE: Director Ti West tonight unveiled to Toronto viewers at the Midnight Madness premiere of Pearl that there will be a third installment of his hit cult favorite franchise that began with X. Mia Goth is celebrating her new film.
The greatest strength of Ti West’s “X,” the very A24 vibes ‘n all sex-slasher which premiered to tepid acclaim at South By Southwest earlier this year, was never its reverence for “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” nor its lurid ‘70s grit and grain, nor its abundance of pornstaches. No, no: a double-dipping Mia Goth was the lynchpin, be it caked in prosthetics as the melting, murderous octogenarian Pearl or starlet-in-the-making (with an aptly porn-y name) Max Minx.
Mia Goth is stepping out to support her new movie.
Mia Goth looks terrifying in the just released trailer for Pearl, the prequel to X, the popular horror movie released in March 2022.
Earlier this year, indie filmmaker Ti West (“The Innkeepers”) released the indie horror hit “X,” set in 1979, and centered on a group of young filmmakers who set out to make an adult film in rural Texas. But when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast finds themselves fighting for their lives.
A24’s smart slasher/horror X grossed over $4.4M on 2,865 screens to take fourth place at the weekend box office, topping expectations for writer/director Ti West’s return after a six-year absence from film. His first ever wide release, a cross between the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Boogie Nights, is currently Certified Fresh at 96% and has a prequel nearly done and a sequel on the horizon.
Wilson Chapman editorTi West made his name directing nimbly paced throwbacks to horror films of old, from his haunted house breakthrough “The House of the Devil” to his found footage film “The Sacrament.” But after directing six horror films in a row, with very few breaks in between, he decided to take some time off to make sure he didn’t start repeating himself. While on his break from horror filmmaking, during which he directed for TV shows such as “Scream,” and “Tales From the Loop,” he thought about making a pure slasher film, something he hadn’t done before. Trying to find his own unique spin on the subgenre, he decided to make slasher film about people making a film.
