Phil Lynott statue unveiled in late Thin Lizzy frontman’s birthplace

Thin Lizzy from their 1969 formation until their first breakup in 1983 – has been unveiled in the Staffordshire town of West Bromwich, where he was born.The new statue of Lynott was crowdfunded by Thin Lizzy fans and designed by a local sculptor named Luke Perry. It was unveiled on August 20 – what would have been Lynott’s 72nd birthday.The sculpture features a bronze likeness of the singer and bassist on a metal plinth.

Black Sabbath performed their first gig has secured listed status, following fears it may be knocked down.The Crown venue, also regarded by some as the “birthplace of heavy metal” was one of the buildings at risk on Station Street. It is based on the same street as the Electric – the UK’s oldest working cinema which was shut down last week.Now, it has been listed as Grade II by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on the advice of Historic England, helping to secure its future on the street.The iconic space has been empty for 10 years now, and initially, Birmingham Open Media had planned to buy and restore the pub.

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett has joined forces with guitar manufacturer Gibson to create replicas of his iconic “Greeny” Les Paul.The original 1959 model has become iconic in the guitar world, having belonged to members of some of the world’s biggest bands. Originally, the axe was owned by Fleetwood Mac‘s Peter Green and from there it was passed down to Thin Lizzy’s guitarist Gary Moore, who played it for decades.Now, the design is owned by the thrash icon and Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, who has teamed up with the manufacturer to create replicas.“I am very honoured and grateful for this opportunity with Gibson,” Hammett said.
