EXCLUSIVE: Mariama Diallo (Master, Random Acts of Flyness) is set to direct the pilot episode of the Hulu original series The Other Black Girl.

It’s a cool indie weekend when the new album by André 3000, New Blue Sun, has morphed into a “cinematic listening experience.” Variance Films is putting the experience, directed by Terence Nance, into three theaters in NYC (IFC Center), LA (Cinepolis Inglewood) and Atlanta (Tara).

This highly anticipated series solidifies his position among the pioneers of the Afro-surrealist genre.Afrofuturism and Afro-surrealism, often seen as interchangeable, are different.

Thania Garcia Emile Mosseri is slated to score the new Amazon original series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” created by Donald Glover, Hiro Murai and Francesca Sloane. The new show — which is based on Doug Liman’s 2005 film of the same title (scored by John Powell) — will star Glover himself, opposite Maya Erskine, Parker Posey and Wagner Moura. Mosseri served as a composer of films such as “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” “Homecoming,” “When You Finish Saving the World,” and “Minari,” for which he won best original score at the Academy Awards in 2021. He was also nominated for a Grammy in the best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella category for the song “Infinite Love” from Miranda July’s “Kajillionaire.”

Terence Etc, the name under which esteemed director Terence Nance is releasing music, has shared new song “The Merchant of Flatbush.” The track is the the second single from his upcoming debut LP, V O R T E X, due on August 19 via Brainfeeder. Loose and melodic with an undeniably eclectic vibe, “The Merchant of Flatbush" continues the genre-ambiguous approach by Terence Etc, whose recent single "In Contemplation of Clair's Scent" clocked in at over 10 minutes long.

Terence Nance is the visionary director behind the Afrofuturist HBO series Random Acts of Flyness. He's also a musician, having scored his 2012 film An Oversimplification of Her Beauty and, in 2012 released his debut EP Things I Never Had as Terence Etc.
