Marika Hackman has shared her first single in four years, ‘No Caffeine’.The uplifting track is her first new material since her 2019 album ‘Any Human Friend’.“’No Caffeine’ is a list of what to do to avoid having a panic attack and looking at my anxiety as an abusive partner,” said Hackman of the new song.“Occupy your mind / Don’t stay home / Talk to all your friends, but don’t look at your phone / Scream into a bag / Try to turn your brain off,” she sings on the track. The singer-songwriter has also shared a video for the song, which sees her getting a bloody nose before she is physically sick. Ariel Marx and Este Haim on How the Music of ‘A Small Light’ Brought Fresh Shadings to Heroic Holocaust Drama

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Musical tag-teaming doesn’t have results much more fruitful than what came about when the showrunners of “A Small Light” picked Ariel Marx to compose the score for the limited series and Este Haim to serve as executive music producer. Neither Haim nor Marx was in a position to take anything about the job lightly, given that the eight-episode series for National Geographic and Disney+ tells the story of a Dutch woman, Miep Gies, who helped hide Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis. Yet, in their very separate roles, both found ways to bring musical light or even levity into a drama that inevitably skews toward tension. Este Haim took on the EMP job for the first time with “A Small Light” after previously scoring or co-composing “Maid” and “Cha Cha Smooth” — on top of her day job as one-third of the rocking sister trio Haim. For “A Small Light,” she produced episode-ending covers of songs from the first half of the 20th century, performed by Angel Olsen, Moses Sumney, Kamasi Washington, Sharon Van Etten with Michael Imperioli, Remi Wolf, Weyes Blood, duet partners Orville Peck and King Princess, and her sister Danielle.

A Small Light. The eldest sister and bassist in Haim will be joined by composer Ariel Marx in creating the soundtrack to the Disney+ and National Geographic series that focuses on Miep Gies, the Dutch woman who hid Anne Frank and her family during the Holocaust of World War II.According to Billboard, the soundtrack will include covers of classic hits from stars like the bassist’s sister and bandmate Danielle Haim, along with Kamasi Washington, Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, Remi Wolf and Moses Sumney. The soundtrack will also feature duets between Sharon Van Etten and Sopranos star Michael Imperioli as well as King Princess and Orville Peck.“I can’t begin to express what an honour and a privilege it is to be a part of this series, especially as my first role as an EMP,” shared Este.“Miep’s story is one of a modern woman standing up for what is right, and that should continue to inspire all of us. I am so thrilled to be able to help bring this to life through the power of music,” she added. Each week, two songs from A Small Light will be made available to stream.

Neil Young and Stephen Stills Bring Buffalo Springfield Classics Back to Life in Greek Theatre Autism Benefit

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Comes a time when even Neil Young is going to set foot on a stage again after the pandemic, and the recently gig-shy legend turned in his first substantial live performance in almost four years Saturday night at a benefit concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Young shared much of his time on stage with Stephen Stills, in a show that relied so much on material from their first run as fellow band members in the 1960s, it almost amounted to a true “Buffalo Springfield revisited” show. The two longtime cohorts’ appearances apart and in tandem would have been draw enough to fill the Greek Saturday for the “Autism Speaks Light Up the Blues 6 Concert,” a sixth edition of the recurring autism benefits hosted by Stills and his wife Kristen, this one postponed by three years from its original spring 2020 date. But there was plenty of star power besides, including sets by Willie Nelson, making a brief but impactful appearance in advance of his 90th birthday celebration next weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, and Joe Walsh, who ensured that Stills and Young did not have the guitar heroism to themselves.

Here’s every song on the ‘Yellowjackets’ soundtrack so far

Yellowjackets is back for a second season, with this compelling mystery-thriller further deepening its complex and traumatic narrative. The second instalment of the Showtime series, which is broadcast in the UK on Paramount+, kicked off last week (March 24), with episodes set to air weekly until May 14.A synopsis for season two of Yellowjackets reads: “The Yellowjackets barely made it through summer, but now as winter begins to bite, we’ll see if hunger and desperation turn into full-on psychosis.“Meanwhile, 25 years later, each survivor must determine if the darkness is coming for them or from them.”The original score for the first season of Yellowjackets, as well as the theme song ‘No Return’, was handled by singer-songwriters Craig Wedren (of the band Shudder To Think) and Anna Waronker (That Dog), while composer Theodore Shapiro wrote the music for the pilot episode. You can listen to ‘Blood Hive’, the original score for season one of Yellowjackets, below. For a show that is so steeped in ’90s nostalgia, the soundtrack of Yellowjackets has understandably become a hit among its growing fanbase given its inclusion of an array of classic tracks. From Hole‘s ‘Miss World’ to The Prodigy‘s ‘Firestarter’, the Yellowjackets soundtrack has also featured the likes of Alanis Morissette, Salt-N-Pepa, Bill Withers, Jane’s Addiction, The Offspring and PJ Harvey. An official Spotify playlist containing all of the songs featured in Yellowjackets was first released following the conclusion of the first season of the show in January 2022, and that playlist is now being updated as each new episode airs.
