has seen a lot changes for Yvonne Strahovski’s character, Serena Joy, who started the season as the figurehead of Gilead following the assassination of her husband, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), who was mourned with an elaborate televised funeral. Since then, her plans to open a Gilead cultural center in Canada were met with extreme pushback before she eventually took up residence with Sons of Jacobs supporters, The Wheelers, where she was forced to live life as a handmaid. Now, in episode 7, «No Man’s Land,» Serena finds herself turning to June (Elisabeth Moss) for help as she gives birth to her son, Noah, as the series flashes back to their early days in Gilead, when June was still a handmaiden named Offred and the two were learning the Republic’s bizarre birthing ritual. «Serena doesn’t seem like she is redeemable, but it is quite unexpected, I think, how the season evolves,» Strahovski tells ET as she and Moss break down Serena’s birth scene.
Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic Deep into its run, “The Handmaid’s Tale” has found itself — or a version of itself, at once leaner and stranger — again. In the past, I’ve written that this show, which boasts a strong ensemble cast supporting probably the most agile performer on television, has been frustratingly unable to emerge from the potency of its set-up. Season after season was spent re-litigating the harms done to Elisabeth Moss’ June, all while reducing her from a recognizable human into a character history. The show made the point that June had been altered by trauma too well. Now, though, June feels liberated; in the wake of Season 4’s conclusion, in which our heroine led a mob killing of her tormentor (Joseph Fiennes), Moss’ performance feels opened up, and so does the series’ creative universe.
is almost here. Ahead of its September premiere, Hulu debuted a new extended and emotional trailer, teasing an epic showdown between Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and June (Elisabeth Moss), who killed Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) at the end of season 4. “He had to pay for what he did,” June is heard saying of Waterford, whom she blames for taking the U.S.
short trailer, which you can watch above, the entirety of Gilead is after June, who is now safely in Canada, after she led a legion of Handmaid refugees to kill Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). His wife, Serena Grace (Yvonne Strahovski), is in mourning, and June makes it clear: “I want her to know it was me.”Meanwhile Serena appears to be plotting revenge, with June ready for what comes next.“You want to fight?” June says in a voiceover.
Season 5 of “The Handmaid’s Tale” is nearly upon us.The upcoming installment of Hulu’s dystopian drama will premiere Sept. 14 with two episodes, the streamer announced Monday. New episodes will stream weekly following the premiere.“The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 4 ended on a dramatic note, as June (Elisabeth Moss) orchestrated the murder of Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) with fellow Handmaid refugees.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ with Serena Joy … who’s got a darker soul. Sofie to me was the complete opposite.“Having that springboard into this character was a treat for me.”“Stateless,” which premiered on Australia’s ABC network, was inspired by the true story of Cornelia Rau who, in 2004, was unlawfully detained for 10 months in Australia.“Even though [the show] was based on true events, we kind of did our own thing with Sofie.
