Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer “No Country for Old Men” and “Harry Potter” star Kelly Macdonald has joined the ensemble of Searchlight Pictures’ rock opera “O’Dessa.” Written and directed by Geremy Jasper (“Patticake$”), the film is led by “Stranger Things” breakout Sadie Sink and costars Kelvin Harrison Jr., Murray Bartlett and Regina Hall. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the film tells of a farm girl on an epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love – but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test.

EXCLUSIVE: Regina Hall (Honk for Jesus. Save your Soul.) has closed a deal to star alongside Sadie Sink, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Murray Bartlett in O’Dessa, Searchlight Pictures‘ original rock opera from writer-director Geremy Jasper (Patti Cake$), which commences production in Croatia in May.

EXCLUSIVE: Following her critically acclaimed performance in The Whale, which included a recent Critics Choice nomination, Sadie Sink has found her next film as she is set to star in Searchlight’s O’Dessa with Geremy Jasper directing. Penned by Jasper, with original songs written and produced by Jasper and Jason Binnick. The film also reunites producers Michael Gottwald for the Department of Motion Pictures, Noah Stahl, and Rodrigo Teixeira for RT Features, as well as executive producers Jonathan Montepare, Dan Janvey, and Lourenço Sant’Anna, all of whom worked on Jasper’s breakout hit Patti Cake$.

Focus Features announced today that it will release James Gray’s semi-autobiographical drama Armageddon Time in limited theaters on October 28. The film will expand domestically on November 4 before going nationwide on the 11th.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Sarnoski is set to write and direct the feature film adaptation of Sabrina, which is based on the Nick Drnaso’s graphic novel of the same name, from New Regency and RT Features. New Regency is producing alongside RT Feature’s Rodrigo Teixeira. New Regency will finance the project. Sources close to Sarnoski say this will not be his next film as he is expected to make the A Quiet Place spin-off his next directing gig.

EXCLUSIVE: Anthony Hopkins and Jeremy Strong are set to join the cast of Focus Features Armageddon Time with James Gray writing and directing. Anne Hathaway is also on board as are newcomers Banks Repeta along with Jaylin Webb and Ryan Sell. The film is currently in production in New York.

At one point the cast for “Armageddon Time” boasted Robert De Niro, Cate Blanchett, Oscar Isaac and Donald Sutherland, with the plan that production would’ve begun early in 2021, but that group is no longer attached.“Armageddon Time” is inspired by Gray’s life growing up in Queens and is a coming-of-age story set in a pre-Reagan America.
