Anne Robinson announced she was leaving Countdown a year after becoming host, speculation has been mounting over who will take on the mantle next. With individuals including Sir Trevor McDonald, Moira Stuart and Colin Murray (who was recently announced as a temporary stand-in) named as possible contenders to replace her, Lorraine Kelly reckons Carol Vorderman – who was on the programme for 26 years – would be the perfect candidate. On Monday’s Lorraine, Carol was interviewed in the ITV studio alongside her Celebrity Gogglebox co-star Gyles Brandreth, when the subject of Countdown’s future was raised.

Countdown is one of the UK’s most beloved and prestigious quiz shows, but actually appearing on the Channel 4 programme sounds like quite the conundrum in itself.
