‘Rainbow Six Siege’ is adding four new operators this year, starting with attacker Brava

NME was not shown any more information on how these operators might be equipped or the gadgets they might entail.Brava will join Brazillian colleagues Capitao and Caviera, while there are already two Korean operators in Dokkabei and Vigil. However, there hasn’t been a Swedish operator in the game since the original franchise’s Annika Lofquist – a deep cut if Ubisoft were to bring her back – and there has never been a Portuguese operator, so it’s a chance for players from those countries to play operators from those two places. At the Rainbow Six Siege world championship the Six Invitational, a heap of information on both new operation Commanding Force and Ubisoft’s upcoming plans for the next year has been revealed.

‘XDefiant’ delay isn’t down to devs trying to copy modern ‘Call Of Duty’ games

XDefiant’s executive producer has hit back at reports that the first-person shooter has been delayed due to devs trying to copy modern Call Of Duty games.First announced in 2021, XDefiant is a 6v6 multiplayer shooter that brings together characters from various Ubisoft franchises like The Division, Rainbow Six Siege and Splinter Cell.XDefiant launched an open beta at the start of 2023 but the game was delayed indefinitely in September, after failing a number of console quality control tests.“I know it’s a bummer that we are moving the date especially since we seemed so close and that for many the game is great and they can’t wait to play but I’d rather ship a game that is better for everyone,” said executive producer Mark Rubin at the time.Earlier this month, it was reported that the continued delays to XDefiant were down to the team “chasing” Call Of Duty and copying features found in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. However, Rubin has hit back at those claims, calling them a “major eyeroll”.Just FYI, nothing about our delay is due to any new features. In fact not much has changed from a gameplay standpoint.

Ex-Ubisoft staff arrested after sexual assault and harassment investigation

Ubisoft executives have been arrested following an investigation into alleged instances of sexual assault and harassment within its offices.Per Libération, three individuals were arrested on October 3 and another two were taken into custody on October 4. Among them are Tommy François and Serge Hascoët, who both left the publisher after the allegations were made public.François was Ubisoft Paris’ vice president of editorial and creative services, working on series like Assassin’s Creed, Prince Of Persia, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Watch Dogs and others.Joining in 1988, Hascoët served as Ubisoft’s chief creative officer and oversaw the reboots and revivals of Assassin’s Creed and the two Tom Clancy properties Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.Several years ago, Ubisoft was accused of housing “a toxic system within the [third] biggest studio in the industry, dominated by untouchable men, protected by ‘a wall of HR'” in the report published by Libération in 2020.In response, Ubisoft commenced its own investigations into the claims and conducted an internal survey, concluding one in five employees did not feel “fully respected or safe in the work environment”.Additionally, women were 30 per cent more likely to experience or witness discrimination than men, while non-binary people were 43 per cent more likely to be targeted.“We want to start by apologising to everyone affected by this – we are truly sorry,” said Ubisoft in a statement, pledging that it would “do better” in the future.“Ubisoft has no knowledge of what has been shared and therefore can’t comment,” said a spokesperson to Gamesindustry.biz on the arrests.

Rainbow Six Siege operator Grim is currently planned for a rework, according to a round table on game balance and onboarding at Ubisoft’s HQ, along with remarks from NME’s interview with Siege’s creative director Alex Karpazis.Grim hasn’t made much of an impact in Rainbow Six Siege since his addition in Operation Brutal Swarm back in August 2022, and comments from the balancing round table have shown that the Siege developers are keen to look at how they can make him more interesting, admitting that while Grim is viable in high-level post-plant situations, but that “this operator needs to be viable at multiple times”Karpazis talks a little bit more about the approach the development team takes to reworks. “First we listen to the community,” said Karpazis.

Shield operators are getting reworked in ‘Rainbow Six Siege’

Rainbow Six Siege, with a rework arriving in the Year 8, Season 4 operation. It will be the biggest change to shield operators since the game’s launch, and NME spoke to Siege creative director Alex Karpazis at the Six Invitational to find out what’s changing.Karpazis points to shields as one of the standout features of Siege and something that really differentiated it at launch, but said that while the fantasy is about a super powerful force shaping the battlefield around them, in reality it’s “two operators dancing around each other super awkwardly, and we strip these elite operators from any of their fun and engaging tactical choices.”The rework will empower shield users, but rather than empowering them to be the godless killing machine that was shield-wielded attacker Blitz in 2018, here shield operators will be buffed to help with the role the development team on Siege had them planned for: protecting and observing.“At the moment we’re playing around with shield operators tucking in behind their shield, so there’s no hip fire on them anymore, but you can free look to have better situational awareness.” explains Karpazis.

Ubisoft Forward to “unveil the future” of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ this week

Ubisoft Forward, the publisher’s online showcase, is due to take place this Saturday (September 10) and promises updates on some of its biggest franchises – including a peek at the future of Assassin’s Creed.Taking place on September 10 at 8:00 PM BST, the showcase will feature Ubisoft games such as Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Skull & Bones, as well as a special Assassin’s Creed presentation that promises to “unveil the future of the franchise.”The publisher has already confirmed that the new entry to the franchise will be titled Assassin’s Creed Mirage, after a supposedly-official image made early rounds on social media this week.Additionally, it was reported back in February that a new Assassin’s Creed game is planned to release in late 2022 or early 2023, to come before the launch of the online service title Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which will allegedly feature multiple historical settings.According to Bloomberg, anonymous sources claim that Mirage, codenamed Rift, will star popular Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla character Basim, and will be smaller in scope than previous entries to the series. It is reported that Mirage won’t be a massive open-world role-playing game, and will instead have more of a focus on stealth. While a Ubisoft spokesperson said that the publisher does not comment “on rumours or speculation as they do a disservice to our development teams and community,” Basim’s return was announced back in 2021 during a Eurogamer interview with Valhalla producer José Araiza.Ubisoft Forward will be available via the publisher’s official website, or through Ubisoft’s own YouTube and Twitch channels.
