Queen Margrethe II's family came together and put on a united front for a special occasion. On Sunday, the monarch was joined by her entire family on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace in honor of her 83rd birthday.For the occasion, Margrethe — who is Europe's sole ruling queen — was joined by her heir, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, his wife, Crown Princess Mary, their children, Prince Christian, 17, Princess Isabella, 15, and 12-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. Also on hand was the queen's younger son, Prince Joachim of Denmark — whose children all lost their prince/princess titles -- his wife, Princess Marie of Denmark, and their children, Countess Athena of Mopezat, 11, Henrick, Count of Mopezat, 13.Joachim's two oldest children, Count Nikolai of Mopezat, 23, and Count Felix of Mopezat, 20, whom he shares with ex-wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, were also on the balcony for the celebration.Margrethe gave her family an equal moment to shine as she was photographed standing next to some of her grandchildren and at other times, by her sons.

As Denmark prepares to celebrate Crown Princess Mary‘s 50th birthday, we’re looking back at her love story with Crown Prince Frederik.

The stakes were high when Prince William and the Danish Crown Prince couple Prince Frederick and Princess Mary met at London’s Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old, who is currently third in line to the Danish throne behind her father, Prince Frederik, and brother, Prince Christian, recently made headlines when she was caught snapping at her mother, Princess Mary, during Christian’s confirmation.

John, who lives in Scotland with his wife and Mary’s stepmum Susan Horwood, is expected to make his way to Denmark for the confirmation of Prince Christian, due to take place as early as this month.

Prince Frederik, Princess Mary and their four children – Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent – proved they wouldn’t be letting strict COVID-19 lockdowns ruin their festive season. 

, Alessandra gave birth in Madrid, and everyone is healthy and happy. As for their names, the royal couple named their son Nicolas and named their daughter Sofia, likely after Queen Sofía of Spain.

The snaps were released to celebrate Queen Margrethe of Denmark's 80th birthday this week and feature her posing alongside her son Crown Prince Frederik and grandson Prince Christian. 

The couple were photographed in and around Verbier, the alpine village near the location of their children’s temporary school. But amid news that Mary will be based in Switzerland until April, while Frederik splits his time between there and Denmark, there is concern the couple could be feeling the strain.
