EXCLUSIVE: Allie Fox and his family won’t be returning to The Mosquito Coast as Apple TV+ has opted not to proceed with a third season of the drama series. The decision comes two weeks after Season 2 ended its run with an explosive finale.

It so, the third season heads right into the territory of Paul Theroux’s 1981 novel that Peter Weir turned into a cult classic movie with Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. Marta Balaga Melissa George’s Margot is looking for a way out in the “twisty” second season of “The Mosquito Coast.”  “This couple has been together for 15 years. They’ve got these two kids [played by Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman]. But they separated when the children were young, for a very good reason. There was an incident, which we will reveal in the first episode,” she tells Variety at Mipcom. “It’s going to hit the ground running. Developed by Cross & Tom Bissell, the series is a Fremantle Production for Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ is rolling out new seasons of four of the streamer’s popular series before the end of the year.“The Mosquito Coast” Season 2 will begin rolling out on Nov. 4 with the first episode. New episodes will premiere weekly through Jan.

You could be forgiven for thinking that there was some kind of insider trading going on when Justin Theroux was announced to play the lead in The Mosquito Coast, a seven-part Apple TV+ series based on a book written by his uncle: it’s a project, literally, with his name written all over it. But the 49-year-old actor, who has a few years on Harrison Ford from when he starred in Peter Weir’s 1986 adaptation of Paul Theroux’s novel, insists that it came to him just like any other opportunity.

The final episode for Apple TV+’s “The Mosquito Coast” series dropped today and the prequel aspect of the series has, in theory, come to an end. Based on Paul Theroux’s 1981 novel and already renewed for a second season, the first seven episodes find Allie Fox (Justin Theroux), his wife Margot (Melissa George), and their two teenage children on the run from the U.S.
