Prime Video has released the official trailer for the second season of Outer Range, the Josh Brolin starrer that follows a rancher who discovers an unfathomable phenomenon at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness.

Two years after it premiered, one of our favorite shows of 2022, “The Outer Range” returns this summer (read our review). Something of an unusual but welcome mix of “Yellowstone” family drama and existential “X-Files” sci-fi, “Outer Range” star Josh Brolin as a rancher in Wyoming fighting for his land and his family, who discovers something unfathomable on its outskirts.

Amazon Prime Video‘s acclaimed sci-fi Western series “Outer Range” is finally making its return. Today, the streaming service announced the series will debut on May 16 and shared some new first-look images from the show.

The Western sci-fi drama stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher who is fighting to protect his family and discovers a mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. The Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca (Kristen Connolly) and are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons, the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch, make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of events that come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will Patton also star.

Carson Burton “Outer Range,” the new Josh Brolin-led Western series from Prime Video, aims to twist the well-worn genre at its very roots. To showcase the land of the West in a never-before-seen fashion, the eight-episode series mixes in an element of the supernatural, with mind-bending results.“It took a very simple, straight-forward genre and then it took extraordinary twists, whether it be metaphysical or whatever you want to call it,” Brolin told Variety at the show’s premiere at Hollywood’s Harmony Gold theater on Thursday night.
