In December, the company did something few of its competitors could do: It struck a deal with Google to have three different late-night hosts weave a promotional message about the search-engine giant into their programs. On the night of December 15, Stephen Colbert, James Corden and Trevor Noah all nodded to Google during CBS’ “Late Show” and “Late Late Show” and Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” The ad deal represented a vote of confidence in a sturdy portfolio of late-night programs that spanned broadcast and cable. Now, a good chunk of the talent in that collection is gearing up to move.

Charlamagne Tha God’s late-night show is being rebranded as it heads into its second season.The series, which returns Thursday, July 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, will now be called “Comedy Central’s Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.”The show is also getting a new format, featuring what MTV Entertainment Studios explained in a release was an unlikely pairings of comedians, outspoken celebrities and thought-leaders across the political spectrum to debate the current events permeating politics and culture with influential guests unpacking the stories blazing the headlines.“Last year I shared ‘Tha God’s Honest Truth’ about politics, culture and social issues but this year, I’m thinking enough shows talking about problems; I want to discuss solutions,” Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey said in a statement.
Selome Hailu MTV Entertainment Group announced that Comedy Central has renewed “Tha God’s Honest Truth With Charlamagne Tha God” for its second season, which will premiere this summer.Created and hosted by Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey, “Tha God’s Honest Truth” is a weekly half-hour late night series featuring Charlamagne’s takes on various social issues through deep dives, sketches and social experiments. Season 1 guests included Kamala Harris, Ed Sheeran, Kevin Hart, Meagan Good, Chlöe Bailey and Soulja Boy.Speaking to Variety in 2021, Charlamagne explained the bluntness of his tone and conversations on the show.
