Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “Goosebumps” series in the works at Disney+ has added Justin Long to its cast as a series regular, Variety learned exclusively. The show is based on the R.L. Stine book series of the same name. Variety exclusively reported the show had been ordered at Disney+ back in February. Per the official logline, “The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together — thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries and pasts with each other — in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.” According to Disney Branded Television, the series is influenced by five of the most popular “Goosebumps” books.

Apple TV+ has picked up a second season of Platonic, its hit half-hour comedy starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen.

BreAnna Bell “Platonic” will return for a second season on Apple TV+, the streamer announced on Thursday. Co-created, directed and co-written by Stoller and Delbanco, the series follows a platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) who reconnect after a long rift.

BreAnna Bell Disney’s “Goosebumps” series scared up solid opening figures after premiering its debut episode at NYCC on Friday, delivering 4.2 million total views in its first three days of availability streaming on Hulu and Disney+. With the release of the first five episodes, Disney’s touting the launch as Disney Branded Television’s most-watched season premiere of the year on both Disney+ and Hulu and its biggest streaming season premiere since “Monsters at Work” debuted in 2021. Goosebumps, Disney+’s live-action series based on R.L. Stine’s bestselling Scholastic book series, is set to premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu on Friday, October 13. The 10-part series from Disney Branded Television and Sony TV, will drop the first five episodes as part of Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” celebrations, with subsequent new episodes streaming weekly. Additionally, the series’ first two episodes will air on Freeform on October 13th, as part of its “31 Nights of Halloween” programming.

Showtime has scrapped a number of greenlit originals including the series remake of Gattaca from Homeland co-creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and Seasoned, a comedy starring real-life husband and wife Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody.

Charna Flam “Neighbors” co-stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are reuniting on the small screen for the new Apple TV+ comedy series “Platonic.” In the new series, Rogen and Byrne play Will and Sylvia, two former BFFs approaching midlife who attempt to rekindle their friendship after a falling out. According to the show’s official logline, Will and Sylvia’s friendship eventually “becomes all consuming — and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way.” The 10-episode series will premiere its first three episodes on May 24, with the remaining seven installments dropping Wednesdays until the finale on July 12.

Apple TV+ has set the premiere date and offered a first look at Platonic, the upcoming 10-episode comedy series starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen.

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Studios has won a heated auction among four other studios and streamers for a Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston comedy vehicle. The untitled body swap comedy was pitched last week by Max Barbakow, who will write and direct the film. LuckyChap Entertainment, the production label of Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will produce alongside Roberts and her Red Om Films banner, Aniston’s Echo Films, and Barbakow. He is best known for directing Palm Springs, the Andy Samberg-Cristin Milioti 2020 comedy won by Neon and Hulu at Sundance for a then-festival record sum. The comedy is based on his original pitch.

The eight-episode series follows armchair detective Bell Prescott (Luke Kirby) and traffic cop Cammie Lorde (Tiana Okoye) as they investigate a murder in their small Florida town. Along with Kirby and Okoye, the series stars Forrest Goodluck, Lorenza Izzo, Wallace Smith, Glenn Morshower and Lesley Ann Warren. Angelique Jackson Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell are headed to the altar in a new wedding comedy for Amazon Studios.Amazon has landed rights to the untitled project, from writer-director Nick Stoller, in which Witherspoon and Ferrell will star and produce under their respective banners, Hello Sunshine and Gloria Sanchez.
