Not counting “Small Axe,” his excellent anthology series, Steve McQueen hasn’t made a feature film since 2018’s “Widows.” Thankfully, that’s about to change. Deadline reports that McQueen’s next film is “Blitz,” a film about the Blitz of London in World War II, with Saoirse Ronan leading the ensemble cast.

New Regency and Ubisoft Entertainment are teaming up for a live-action feature film based on the action-focused tactical hacker video game, “Watch Dogs.” The studio previously landed French director Mathieu Turi (“Meander“) and has chosen the first actor to lead the video game adaptation. Deadline reports that young Aussie actress Sophie Wilde has joined the project.  If you’re not familiar with the original ambitious video game, below is the official logline via Ubisoft’s website as a refresher:  You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy.

EXCLUSIVE: New Regency‘s Jeff Nichols-directed crime drama The Bikeriders, which was at 20th Century Studios, is getting acquired by Focus Features. Focus is taking global rights to the pic, reteaming them with New Regency who they partnered with on 2022’s The Northman. A 2024 theatrical release is planned. Universal will distribute the movie overseas.

New Regency said today it’s closed a $175 million term loan from global investment firm Carlyle Group, providing new capital for the indie to scale up production. The loan is a refinancing and upsize of an existing Carlyle facility.

In late April, New Regency announced that John Hillcoat will adapt Cormac McCarthy‘s “Blood Meridian” for the big screen, Hillcoat’s second McCarthy adaptation after 2009’s “The Road.” Regarded in literary circles as one of the greatest American novels of all time, McCarthy’s epic western about the human scalping trade in the Southwest 1850s isn’t for the faint of heart. And for a director, helming a film like “Blood Meridian” represents equal parts passion and masochism.

Great news, literature fans: Cormac McCarthy‘s “Blood Meridian” finally gets the cinematic treatment. Deadline reports that New Regency has an adaptation of the 1985 novel in development, with John Hillcoat set to direct.

James Ellroy, the author of L.A. Confidential, made an appearance at the L.A. Times Festival of Books where he talked about the film adaptation of his book.
