Barbie director Greta Gerwig has revealed in a new interview that she had to cut a “fart opera” out of the film following screen tests.Speaking to IndieWire, Gerwig and the film’s editor Nick Houy shared that across the three films (Lady Bird, Little Women, Barbie) they have worked on together, they always try to sneak in a fart joke, but none of the jokes have ever made the final cut of the film.Barbie proved to be no different, Gerwig explained, saying: “We’ve always tried to get in a proper fart joke and we’ve never done it. All of the controversial misfit toys of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Land

Greta Gerwig’s bubblegum fever dream “Barbie” gave clever nod to ill-fated Barbie Land dolls — such as pregnant Midge, Ken’s BFF Allan, Tanner the pooping pup and Growing Up Skipper, to name a few.“I think I got most of them in there,” Gerwig, 39, told IndieWire of brushing off the decades of dust on the misfit toys for the new summer flick.“There’s like a million of them.”Among the many popular iterations of Barbie over the last 64 years, these unfortunate few fell flat. The “weird,” as “Barbie” narrator Helen Mirren says, concept of the pregnant figurine was born into Mattel lore in 2002.Midge — whose full name is Margaret Hadley Sherwood in the Barbieverse — was originally billed as Barbie’s best friend, but was meant to be the “ugly sidekick” to Barbie’s “dream girl” persona, M.G. Lord, the author of “Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of a Real Doll,” told Buzzfeed News. When Midge, played by Emerald Fennell in the summer blockbuster, was launched in 1963, the redhead could fit in all of her bestie’s outfits. But that ended when she was re-released with her magnetic bump that revealed an infant inside — nevermind the anatomical logistics.

‘Command Z’ Review: Steven Soderbergh Travels Back In Time To Amuse With 2023 Cultural Satire About Our Impending Doom

Just as the global pandemic seemed to profoundly accelerate the demise of movies and theatergoing—something we all cynically assumed would happen, but hell, not that fast! Not so soon! culturally, our internal clocks all have an impending sense of doom that seems to be ticking faster than ever. Climate change is something we presume will destroy our lives eventually, but globally, it’s been unnerving to watch raging forest fires in Australia that appear apocalyptic, or more recently, if you’re a New Yorker, experience firsthand alarming smoke and air quality pollution that looks like it’s been shot by Roger Deakins on the set of “Blade Runner 2049.” Intentional timed or not, this is where Steven Soderbergh and writer Kurt Anderson are coming from with their surprise new sci-fi-ish satirical series, “Command Z” (the Apple key command for “undo,” and specifically the computer power to negate a mistake; the serious was not officially announced until three days prior to release, and not for nothing, we were the only ones that reported about it months ago in advance).

Angelique Jackson “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig loved playing with Barbies growing up, so when the time came to bring the world’s most famous doll to the big screen, she was well-versed in Barbie lore and infused the Margot Robbie-starring movie with tons of pink plastic (and fantastic) details. “There must be thousands of B’s everywhere because they also have like designs in the carpet,” Gerwig told Variety on the pink carpet at the world premiere in Los Angeles. (She’s not kidding — we spotted the cursive “B” everywhere, on the dreamhouse walls and patterned on the windows.) Asked which “Hidden B” Easter Egg is her favorite, Gerwig played coy. “I can’t tell it. But I know it,” she teased.

Box Office: ‘Barbie’ Makes $22.3 Million in Previews, ‘Oppenheimer’ Has $10.5 Million

Jordan Moreau “Barbenheimer” is finally here. The biggest box office battle in years has begun, with Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” making $22.3 million at the domestic box office in Thursday previews. Universal’s “Oppenheimer” made $10.5 million in previews. The “Barbie” preview haul is the biggest of the summer box office, beating the previous best of $17.5 million from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” “Barbenheimer” won’t be much of a showdown, however, as Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” is expected to have a huge debut of well over $100 million in its opening weekend — with some estimates as high as $140 million, thanks to its massive marketing efforts. The large preview gross suggests the opening weekend may be closer to the high-end of projections.
