A father and his twin teenage sons fight to survive in a remote farmhouse at the end of the world. In the new RLJE indie “Arcadian,” Nicolas Cage must try and parent and keep his children alive during a perilous post-apocalyptic setting where pollution has destroyed much of the world and created dangerous mutated creatures.

In Benjamin Brewer’s compelling solo directorial debut, “Arcadian,” humanity’s last remnants grapple with the harrowing aftermath of a mysterious apocalypse, where our species survival hangs by a thread amidst the looming threat of monstrous adversaries that come in the night. This atmospheric tale manages to blend family domesticity and raw emotion with gripping horror and excellent creature effects, weaving a fresh and engaging narrative.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter The upcoming Amazon Prime Video series “The Bondsman” starring Kevin Bacon has added four new cast members, Variety has learned exclusively. Beth Grant (“No Country For Old Men,” “Donnie Darko”), Damon Herriman (“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”, “Justified”), Maxwell Jenkins (“Arcadian,” “Lost In Space”) and Jolene Purdy (“The White Lotus,” “Orange Is The New Black”) have all joined the show in series regular roles. Aside from Bacon, they join previously announced cast member Jennifer Nettles.

EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of its world premiere at SXSW, the Nicolas Cage thriller Arcadian has been acquired by RLJE Films, in a deal for North America, UK, Australia and Ireland rights. Also starring Jaeden Martell (It), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space), and Sadie Soverall (Saltburn), the film will be released in theaters on April 12, with a debut on Shudder and AMC+ to follow later in the year.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large “Dear Edward” is now dearly departed. The Apple TV+ drama will not move forward with a second season, Variety has confirmed. Executive producer Jason Katims is now set up at Imagine TV, but “Dear Edward” came from his deal with Apple Studios, which produced the show. Written, showrun and executive produced by Katims, the 10-episode “Dear Edward” was adapted from author Ann Napolitano’s novel about a 12-year-old boy who is the only survivor of a commercial plane crash. Newcomer Colin O’Brien played Edward, while “Dear Edward” was also notable for its reunion between Katims and his “Friday Night Lights” star Connie Britton, who played a woman whose husband was killed on the plane. Taylor Schilling also starred as Edward’s aunt, who takes custody of the boy after he loses his parents and brother to the crash.

Apple canceled its freshman series, Dear Edward, after one season.
